Do you have the CEP haks installed?

A simple question that may effect the route we take our own haks in NWN2.

Thanks.

Not sure what purpose this poll is supposed to serve. When we started doing our own haks, there wasn't a CEP, and that inertia has carried us here. However, for NWN2, to a certain extent we can plan on something like a CEP being in existence. The poll is misleading in that what the case is for NWN1 is almost an accident of NWN1 and doesn't really have much in the way of implications for NWN2.

I'd say the best is to plan on a CEP like thing for NWN2, and then have ALFA supplemental haks with the extra goodies we want. The alfa-specific haks will be much smaller that way.

There's probably going to be far less hak material required, since we don't have tilesets to worry about and the basic stuff that comes with the game looks good enough to use. We won't have to replace all the trees and whatnot like we did with NWN.

Yeah, I'm quite aware of the reasons ALFA used its own haks, and how new the CEP is. The poll shows me how many people have downloaded the CEP. If we look at hak downloads as a barrier for many players, CEP users already have some content when they come to ALFA, and re-using this data seems wise if a significant portion of the playerbase already has it.

Thats been the plan for a while, and its exactly why I started this poll. I wanted to see roughly how many users would only have to download the supplemental haks, and how many would have download everything if things were similar to NWN1. I expect more widespread usage of CEP-like material in NWN2, though.

I think its a bit early to assume haks will necissarily be smaller. There won't be any or as many duplicate, yeah, but the things that are there will be a lot larger in size (when compressed). And yes custom content will be harder to create, but the community is now much more organized and focused then it was when NWN1 was released. Without exterior tilesets, I'm hoping the modelling community will focus more on the things which do need improving, such as additional creature models.

Of course its all moot depending on how Obsidian answers this client-side walkmesh stuff.

Dont know if it has been sugested or not, but could it be possible to have a all the nwn2 mods saved without hak's as a backup? That way if down the road changes are made to hak's and what not there is alway's the "clean backup".

No. You can't just rip out half the module's content.
