*NEWS FROM BEREGOST: Highsong Abbey has been attacked! It is said that none in the Abbey have survived. A group of adventurers were seen leaving Beregost on their way to the Abbey. Upon the groups return they reported that a fierce group of Hobgoblins had taken over the Abbey, and that they had found no survivors. The group apparently destroyed the hobgoblin threat, but the Abbey remains unprotected. The Amnish army continues its patrols, but it appears that they had not been doing enough to protect the Abbey. An investigation team has been sent to the Abbey from Beregost, but the clergy of Lathander reportedly find the unnamed adventure group to be reliable, and expect to find evidence that confirms their report. "This is a sad day, for we expect to find no survivors." One of the Church of Lathander's top priests was quoted as saying. *
"... as you look down on the epic scene your heart sinks as you realize it will take much more than you running into the area to get the girls back. The gnolls are here to stay, and you are helpless without something more..."
Back in the town of Beregost, Aglaril considered the situation with an unusually grim expression visible on his face. His own initial gut response had been akin to that of the Archer: at least one innocent life was on the line, the words of the small creature promising 'sacrifice at the proper time' or some such, most likely in the name of the gnolls' foul hyena-demon god. If the girl had been an Elf, Aglaril knew it would have been he himself considering an attempt at a rescue on the spot, alone if need be... was the life of a human worth much less?
His answer had been tempered by the reality of the situation, the stronghold crawling with foes, and the condition and mood of his companions. Bitterly and reluctantly, he had no choice but to agree with the assessments of Zyrus and Blacke.
In the back of his mind as well, was the conversation earlier in the day with Keren...
Aglaril began writing a series of messages on a small stack of parchment, then left the room at the Juggler to seek out the others.
((attempting to initiate some clarification/organizing for future sessions. Lokan has informed me that the actual rescue probably won't happen for some time RL and there will be a series of preparatory sessions some time after he returns next week; comic book time seems the only feasible means to not break character.
Still waiting on word from DM whether he wishes to open this up to other players or not.
also pm sent regarding loot liquidation))

Aglaril leaves a message for Sir Caine to make sure to ask her temple for stakes, possibly garlic, holy water, and mirrors.
He does everything he can to convey he means stakes as in sharp, wooden pegs and such, not thick cuts of delicious beef. For some reason it seems he views this clarification as both urgent and rather necessary...
((not sure if we want to mess with garlic/mirrors/holy symbols/etc as deterrents for the sake of consistency between DMs... I guess we can find out IC))

Many in Beregost are abuzz with talk of the ranger Lash Stone leading a growling Gnoll on a leash at sword point into Beregost, the monster's hands tied behind its back with arrows still sticking out of its bleeding legs. It is said Stone marched the beast directly into the Temple of Lathander! Later he was seen with others leading it into the Temple barn where gossip says they questioned the thing for some hours.

*NEWS FROM BEREGOST: Days after the attack on Highsong Abbey. A group of adventurers lead by Knight of the morning lord, Caine Kross, and the elf warrior/wizard Aglaril Shaelara. The group returned days later along with a girl thought to be lost in the Abbey attack, Jessica Mkenzzi. The family of Jessica posts its extreme gratitude to the brave adventures. The family would like to invite one man, named Lash Stone, to meet with them as well as any Jessica's other rescuers.
Jessica has been quite well known for her singing ability and the town of Beregost welcomes her back, and hopes she recovers from the ordeal well.
In related news: a group of troubadours and their families have made a pilgrimage to the Abbey. They posted a note of intent with the officials of Beregost before moving south. The group plans to clean the Abbey, and look for clues in an attempt to find out the fate of the head priest, beloved Aldin.
As the group arrived they sang in chorus to praise Milil. It was said that a flock of nightingales appeared in the trees over the abbey as they sang. All rejoiced in the omen. The group hopes to draw more followers of Milil to the Abbey, and asks especially for those that have skills to aid them protect the vulnerable area.*

Layla sits in a tavern, nursing a new scar, a broken tooth and an ale. Around the tavern, folks talk about the rescue of Jessica Mkenzzi. The names Caine Kross, Aglaril Shaelara and Lash Stone are on every lip. Absent from the tales though is any mention of the old sell-sword Blacke or Layla herself, by any of her names. She shakes her head a little and finishes her ale. She sets the mug down, stands slowly, gradually stretching out her sore muscles. She casually limps across the tavern. As she passes a table of excitedly drunk locals talking about the elf Aglaril and Lady Kross she turns to speak.
But she says nothing. She limps on, and at the bar, asks the inn-keep to draw her a hot bath. She wishes the old-man was here; not only could she fulfill his dream of seeing her naked, she'd have someone to share an ale with and toast all the anonymous foot-soldiers and sell-swords who ever marched into battle alongside the so-called heroes. So be it. Some live in the light. Others in the dark. Fate is what it is.

Aglaril has been seeking out the others involved in the rescue to hand them their share of the loot, as well as to show the documents that Caine discovered...
