Some days later, news that this stag beetle seems to be unusually lethal continues, though when a massive hunting party is assembled, they find the stag beetle killed among corpses of human, elf, and goblin alike.

Some time is spent trying to identify bodies, and determine causes of death. Once search parties return and damage is assessed, eight are noted as dead, four certainly the cause of the stag beetle and four more of unknown specific cause. The champion spent that night performing prayers and preparing bodies for their funerals. A dozen messengers left in the morning, the champion herself carrying news, and bloated bags of papers, to Candlekeep.

As no people come to claim the bodies, the Selûnites hold funerals for them, sending seven to sea by their own traditions, and cremating the last.

An acolyte and a squire are overheard talking about the event over drinks later, trying to decide whether the event weighed especially heavily on their head of state or if this has been a steady decline since the High Moonmaiden went missing again. They resolve that it's all a hazard of the calling in either case and pray that they beat the odds.

Some off duty guards are overheard in the Blade and Stars talking about how the corpse of a woman was brought in to the Captain last night. By the looks of it an adventurer. She was found dead in the docks slum by a Tormite from the north, fresh off the boats, who was doing patrol work. The dead woman was identified by locals as one who had gone by the name Xanthe, but nothing further was known about her or her business here at this time.

Babble in Beregost

The fireplace crackled and pipe smoke hung thick over the bar in the Burning Wizard in as an off duty guard ordered a refill. The barkeep took the tankard and, holding it under the tap, spoke over his shoulder to the waiting customer.

"So what ever happened to that lass that came running into your arms off the south Coast Way a few rides ago?"

"The one that was all crying and screaming an' all? You know, my cousin down in Nashkel told me it was the Royd lass. Her da got his breeches in a knot over some family bauble she lost on the road. Appears she dallied with some lad before leaving to come here. Kobolds jumped her in the dark, she barely got away. Had some kind of family crisis after that."

The barkeep set the foaming mug on the bar and the guard drank greedily.

"Anyways, some bald northern guy and a half elf chick came to the rescue," he went on, wiping his moustache."They slammed the kobolds right good and got the heirloom back. Now everybody's happy as a clam, even grumpy old daddy Royd."

"Kobolds on the road? That's been a while. The Flaming Fist been slacking off?" The barkeep scratched his stubble.

The guard looked thoughtful. "Maybe they been too busy chasing smugglers. Remember that one, Ranald, who used to come here? Gave us the slip a few times, even when we *knew* he was up to something. Wily one, always running stuff up and down the Coast Way, in cahoots with those Amnish merchants and lowlifes. Well, haven't seen him for while now. Maybe kobolds got him."

"Ranald Jessum, aye. I remember him, good at running up tabs. Let's hope he comes back to pay his bills first," the barkeep laughed.

A message written in florid script is posted on the notice board across the way from the Blade and Stars. It reads:

"Specialists sought for paid search and recovery mission. Some travel required. Inquire at the Helm and Cloak for further information.

(signed) Daros Hanteren, Merchant."

Over the past several weeks, people have been arriving in Baldur's Gate who are leaving Amn to avoid a recent outbreak of some kind of disease.

Another message has been posted by "Daros Hanteren, Merchant", offering work to explorers and adventurers who are directed to ask for him at the Merchant's League. (DM event hopefully Sunday 6/12 at 7 pm GMT+2. Levels 1-5)

The house girl in the employ of ser Allengarde is seen in the Baldur's Gate marketplace restocking herbs and spices as well as wine, and more wine. For more than two years, the young woman had almost thought of the apartments as her own and despite the allowance dispensed by the coin house to her for upkeep; she had come to believe her master would not be returning.

She shares with a friend in the market, word of a letter. A letter silently warning her to have the wine and dry stores replaced for winter. She seems rather nervous as she tells the tale. 'The letter was not delivered, but found in the bed where I slept.' Her friend scolded her for she slept in the master's chamber and feather bed as if she were a rich woman... they both made a sign for protection from their gods as the house girl explained 'there was nothing but the letter left in the night without any sign that someone else had been in the apartments. When I went to collect household funds for the month, they issued more than enough to accomplish the goal, as if they too knew how much I had used.' She excuses herself and hurries off, stating that she has a goodly amount of cleaning and polishing to accomplish.

Elsewhere in the city, a Waterdhavian ship's captain is having several crew-members lashed for theft or outright incompetence. The grain flour shipment, as well as the wine were both short by casks and barrels. How could they be so incompetent as to fail to load them in Waterdeep, miscount, or worse pilfer and sell them out from under the Captains nose?
'Not a small error, more wine than a person would drink in a year you fools!' he was heard shouting.

Other rumors were to be heard later that the Captain whose profit was lost by his incompetent crew was said to be dealing in stolen goods captured by pirates, and deserving of a worse fate than disloyal crew.

((hee hee! I completely knew that was the case, lol, the boar Ptolem killed was easy/normal. And.... I didn't see any postings IC about the boar being taken down... and the coincidence of walking into the Cloakwood, and seeing that normal boar right there, where I have never seen a normal boar before just seemed too coincidental... so not know he was already taken care of, I thought maybe you put him in there for "lower levels" to complete, or something. all good!)) :)

Those who frequent the Blade and Stars may notice increased traffic near the post office as a pair of travel-worn figures takes up mail delivery jobs. They also ask around various establishments if they have odd jobs and sometimes return with herbs for Arsa, or a small package for the Helm and Cloak.

The duo makes it known they are up for odd jobs and they reside at the Blade and Stars. Ask for Verisa or Maus.

Tacked up on the board a few weeks now, a notice coming from the Moonshaes is uncovered as a job posting is removed.

It states:

Queen Alicia Kendrick invites all friends of the Isles to a celebration for the blessings of good harvest this year.

The Moonshaes Island of Alaron, will be hosting a Harvesttide festival upon Regents fields, just south of Horsa. There will be Music, Dancing, Entertainers, Food and Drink, Games, Merchants and of course contests of skill, daring, wit and strength.

If you be a friend, you will be welcomed.

The dates indicate the festival to be soon. There is just enough time to get there on the next boat, and it will last for more than a tenday.

*Heard over the next ten Day and notices posted at all gates*

Hear Ye Hear Ye,

Let it be known that a Stable has been opened inside the Eastgate. Any Horses found loose from now on will seized and the owner, if found, will be required to pay a *fine* of twenty Dragons for causing a road hazard within the city confines. Those failing to pay will lose said steeds.

Horses may be kept there for a 10 day before the city will consider them abandoned and send them to sale, proceeds to go to the city coffers.

A local gossip in the market place was overheard:

"The rumor I was heard that a man calling himself Lord Allengarde was paying folk down at the Helm & Cloak to pass on a message. Him what was seeking some lass named Elsa and her husband for some sort of sit down it seemed. Would pay well one that could get a message to them quickly and get a response. He said this Elsa would know how to reach him, being formerly in his employ."

Another's response overheard:

"Nah, I heard the bloke was a local boy made good in a far away country come back to pay a promised dowry for a ward, sure, her name was Elsa, but not sure if she was married or not, since her was without a dowery and all. I don't know about title and whatever, but they said he was dressed well and the coin was real.

A third overheard older voice, this one male:
"Aye, local he was, furn shur, I remembers him from way back, used to be always in the company of a beautiful woman or two he was. Used to stay a lot down at 'the blade', I bet auld Andegul might remember him if you remind him with a coin or two.
