Chaos on the Waterways

Post by paazin »

There have been numerous shipping accidents within the mouth of the Chionthar, as several ships have run aground and crashed into the treacherous rocks and cliffs that surround this section of the Sea of Swords. The rumor is that the key lighthouse in Ulgoth's Beard is no longer visible, causing a great deal of havoc along the watery thoroughfare that leads to the city of Baldur's Gate.

The harbormaster is advising ships to not depart the city in anything but clear weather, while the sun is still high. Meanwhile the Flaming Fist is being dispatched to the hamlet to investigate why the mercenary group who was tasked with the lighthouse's upkeep seems to have failed at its obligation. Rumor has it that the group consists of turncoat Banites and Zhentarim and the Fists are readying for a battle.

Meanwhile, the dockside taverns are filled with vague rumors of a large draconic figure visible at great height within the skies above the Chionthar's mouth; many suspect it's some dark work of the crazed mage of Ulgoth's Beard, Shandalar.
People talk of bestial cruelty, but that's a great injustice and insult to the beasts; a beast can never be so cruel as man, so artistically cruel.

Things have settled, more or less, as the Flaming Fist moved into the hamlet of Ulgoth's Beard and set upon quickly rebuilding the fallen lighthouse. Fist stationed there say things are tense however, the mad mage and Banite stronghold both suspiciously quiet.
