Happenings in Nashkel

Common Knowledge:
Nashkell is a recent acquisition of the Amnian nation, acquired in DR 1368. The town consists of about 3,000 locals with another 1,000 people farming or foresting in nearby settlelements or homesteads. The Amnian occupation posts a large garrison of seasoned and well equipped soldiers numbering in the hundreds, with additional non-comabt Amnians serving in the provincial adminsitration.

The city is of greatest improtance for its iron mines, which produce large amounts of material for use in Amn's military endeavors and also generates a great deal of revenue for trade.

Recent months have seen a deterioration of conditions in Nashkel. Most locals will correllate this directly to the appointment of the new Provincial Governor, Delityr Carzhour.

The demand from Amn for ever increasing grain, timber and, most importantly iron production have resulted in the occupying authority exerting ever more harsh working conditions on the local populace. Levied taxes are also high, seemingly to support an extravant lifestyle for the governor and his associates.

The rate of foraging by Amnian troops has also increased, with many commoners having their livestock taken live from their pens.

To make matters worse, recent orc raids from the forests to the North have wrought chaos and death on outlying farms. The Amnian troops have little desire to aid beyond keeping safe the mines and the village proper.

But hope is not lost. Rumors have it that some right minded folk work from at the margins to do what they can to help the down trodden of Nashkel. Although outright revolt agtainst the Amnian authority can not be considered, there is welcome and great praise for those that would come to the vilage to aid.

If quietly asking about in Beregost or other nearby towns, an adventurer might learn that if he or she were to enter The Belching Dragon and order "A half cider with cylor root" they will be put in touch with those that support the people. Even some more mercenery types have supposedly made fair coin aiding the locals. Rumor has it that financial support comes from secret patrons in not small measure for those that would make for the small village at the base of the Cloud Peaks.
