The End of Silverymoon
The mood was unusally dark at Sorlar's Smiling Satyr this last night.
The talkative man had started by singing songs for coins but later in the evening had turned somber as he spoke of things he had learned since arriving in Silverymoon a moon past.
The minstrel said that any man with a lick intellect could put the pieces of the puzzle together, and when those pieces were finally assembled.....only ill omen for the future could be gleaned.
First, arcane fires are allowed to be summoned by folk of evil intent within the walls of the Gem of the North itself.
Then goblinoids and orcs are sighted within the catacombs of Silverymoon.
And finally, the undead contagion has now breached the walls and tainted vermin now roam the city.
The combination of these happenings can only mean that the Mythal of Silverymoon is failing and soon the City will be wholly overrun by evil.
The men at Sorlar's, not usually the most reverent bunch, speak hushed prayers and make marks of warding in hopes that the afflictions might not come to their homes. They ask for the protection of the Lady of Silverymoon that her great magic might not fail them, that they might not be overrun by the dark force that surely readies itself to strike against their once safe City home in the frontier.

Alek has been spending times between tales of past victories speaking to many of the small bands of mercenaries for hire in and around Silverymoon. After these conversations he often sits in a corner under candlelight writing furiously in a book or scratching crude diagrams while enjoying an ale.

Word quickly passes through Rivermoot that after many moons absence, the dwarf Garlus can be found once again smoking his pipe on the long stairway leading out of the hamlet. Though his stated reasoning of waiting for an ingot order from Mithral Hall to be fulfilled may be true, whispers say it is no mere coincidence that the dwarf has appeared just as a local child was saved. Though not a part of the rescue party, it can be heard that the dwarf once again stands guard in the watchtower throughout the dark nights, watching...almost as if he has sensed some evil that has yet to pass and has come to face it.

“Hear ye, hear ye!” shouts the rather loud town crier, “See the latest show from The Admiral’s Men, ‘Comedy of Mistakes’ in one hour!”
“Ain’t that The King’s Men, ya mean?” says a young street urchin with a runny nose.
“No, young master,” says the town crier, shouting it at the top of his lungs despite the
fact that he is engaging in polite conversation, “The King’s Men have been arrested for the murder of Hekeziah Canon! This is truly a must-see show, the last play created by desperate men!”
“It’s true,” says a doddering lady who obviously spends most of her time gossiping in
the square. “There’s only one group who could possibly imitate the priest that
well, and its actors. Can’t trust the lot of them. Very unsavory business, that acting.”
And with that, she turns up her nose.
“See the ‘Comedy of Mistakes’ at the Focluchan in one hour!” repeats the crier.

Re: Tavern knowledge - post your rumours and gossip here
In recent days, many townsfolk and transients could discern both the sound and sight of trees being chopped down and removed from the vicinity of the broken down building on the bank across from the Rivermoot docks. Word spreads that an honest day's wages are available for those who would be interested in assisting the House Invincible garrison commander and his force in clearing the land of the ruins of the burnt out hulk of a building in order to make way for new construction.
Felled trees were roped and dragged across the river to be cut to size in order to replace missing and time-worn sections of the town's wooden pallisade. Leftovers were cut for firewood and left by the town gate for any who might need it.
Signs of some sort of planting could be seen along the edge of the river by the graveyard bridge area. (( A row of 6 evenly spaced circles of freshly turned dirt, about halfway between the riverbank and the highway, with signs that the dirt has also been watered))

A subject that's come up in any conversation around Rivermoot these past couple of days seems to deal with a large explosion that rocked the inn. Witnesses outside saw a couple of hooded gnomes arriving on the scene. Unfortunately, no one inside seems to be able to remember a thing. Magic is at work, people whisper.

Re: Tavern knowledge - post your rumours and gossip here
The riverboat Pride of the Dessarin was loaded with supplies and ready to make its way South to Waterdeep. The vessel supposedly carried a number of highly valuable suits of armof crafted by the dwarves of Citadel Feldbar. The Everwatch Knights had been assigned to guard the wares as they made the long journey along the river, also carrying medicinal herbs grown near Rivermoot, planning on picking up casks of darkwood oil in Yartar and finally loading with so much grain harvested around Goldenfields that the ship would ride the river with her gunnels nearly at the water line.
Some of the Rivermoot village folk were surprised to see some familiar faces join the Helmite guard contingent as they boarded. His plated armor stowed in a locked trunk, Rathalan Whitsword wore clerical robes as he looked back towards the small village with which he had become so intertwined over the last two years. He wondered if the temporary replacements sent from the House Invincible would be up to the task.
Then he shook off the though and forced himself to concentrate on the task at hand. He was of the Everwatch Knights and his Duty was to fulfill the task assigned him.
As Rivermoot disappeared around a bend as the Rauvin joined the Surbin, Rathalan turned his eyes south, thankful for the blessings of Helm bringing him a new Duty and a new way to show his fealty to Great Guardian. It was good to travel once again.

An Argent Legion patrolman could be heard to say loudly in the Rivermoot Angler:
"...There's nay tellin' who might 'ave been killed by those beasts if it were nay fer me and the sargernt comin' upon 'em"...."Aye, five I said...zombies they were...standin' on the bridge in the bright light o' day like they was waitin' fer somethin'..."

Th whole city is abuzz with the flury of rumors. Speculation abounds.....but what is confirmed is that during the Admiral's Men's presentation the Focluchan caught fire! The flame could be seen from the other side of the river, as the Spellguard, Regular folk with buckets, and even nature tried to stem the tides of flame. Some say a heavily armoured patrol of Tyreans was seen entering the sewers just minutes before the flames erupted. Others say it was a Tormite, and even a Helmite patrol. On top of all of this, a stay of execution has been ordered for the King's Men Company, recently accused of the murder of Father Canon. Apparently new findings, and some say even a captured prisoner, may have shed the light of truth elsewhere.

High Hold is on High Alert, as bandits and gnolls have been reported raiding between there and RIvermoot. Many bodies have been brought back to High Hold within the past days, including a Legion soldier. THe Dwarven Garlus has even brought in a finger of a blue giant, warning that travelers should take specific care outside of the Hold, as around eight or ten giants are still calling the nearby land their home. It is advised travelers take special care, as half a company of gnolls have already been killed that fight under the giants.

Re: Tavern knowledge - post your rumours and gossip here
It seems the Argent Legion has hired a number of mercenary companies to patrol the outlying borders of the Silver Marches, while the Legionaries who had once patrolled that area have been withdraw to some other operation. Merchants in particular seem to resent the rudeness of some of these mercenaries.

The populace is becoming wary.
The number of people going missing from the areas west of Highold through to Mithral Hall have been high the last few moons...even for the savage frontier!
Some rumour mutters that rangers sent to investigate say these people are taken quietly and swiftly, not as part of the Gnoll raiding.
Whispers speak of crazed trolls driven north from the Evermoors, of wolf packs walking upright and howling in the moonwood, of ancient vampires stalking the night once again and of water nymphs stealing unweary travellers.
The legion, if even there, are tighlipped and advise people to walk in groups. Some adventurers have been ordered to return to the cities by rangers of the north.

Rathalan Whitsword has been dispatched from The House Invincible to Rivermoot to lead an inquiry into a charge of Deriliction of Duty made against an Argent Legion soldier that resulted in the death of a Helmite holy warrior.
Word has it that Whitsword remarked that a successful impression of his handling of the case might make the leadership fo the Church of Helm willing to consider him for promotion to the rank of Overblade.
Those with information relating to the case can find Watchknight Whitsword in temporary offices inside the Temple of Tyr.

It seems a short quarantine was in order for the small village of Auvendall when it was thought the plague had come again. Thankfully it was simply a misdiagnosis of a common illness and business is back to usual according to Legion Officials.
