Re: Tavern knowledge - post your rumours and gossip here
Two rough woodsmen types are overheard while sharing drinks at the Anglers Inn at High Hold
"Lotta orc tribes shifting around up there in the highlands, too much. Im heading south for the winter."
"Me too. You hear what them Helmites did up in the hills?"
"The skins? Yeah. Why? What do you think about it."
"I think you are right to head south. Them knights have surely doomed the commonwealth to a disaster of a season. Lot of lives will be lost to hunger, then the orcs will start raiding even more then they run out of food too."
"Shouldn't we stay and help then? Won't The Silver Marches need hunters and woodsmen more than ever now?"
"Shouldn't locals learn to respect the wilds in the first place? They brought this on themselves. Have to cut dead weight, I am headin south. Maybe spend the winter in Cormyr."
"I dont fancy a walk that far."
"Consider yourself lucky you can pack up and move on. Think about these poor idiots left to live in the mess those knights left them in"
Everyone was quiet while the men ate their porridge and argued. The mood for the rest of the evening after they left was quiet and somber.

It is whispered in the inns of the Gem that a corpse was found in the early hours of the morn near the bridge, desecrated beyond all recognition. The Guard were promptly called in to investigate and to dispose of the body.

Some say this man in savage cloths and deep hood covering his face left towards the hills some days ago. He is yet to return though some of those that still risk to travel the path speak of a shadows that lurks about, stalks and seems to float in the air as he moves around spying, watching, revealing himself only when he seems to wish and vanishing right after.Grunts and screams of orcs in pain and foul creatures are heard from time to time but not often...
In rivermoot in the local inn
"I tell ya he was like a ghost, dark without feet, he stalked me back to the save trail, creeped me out I tell'a dammed curse i could barely take one step without looking back. *the sound of the mug hitting the counter is heard* son'm'bitch really got me crappin me pants there."
"Oi ya seen the thing too? bloody ghost i tell ya, it is of them orcs Im sure, so much killin'and cursing the spirits are out there to get us. *silence takes the room as the man looks around to the others in the inn and opens his mouth revealing the lack of two teeth* He makes no sound I tell'ya, he is there, then he is here, then he vanishes *his eyes widen as he tells the tale* His eyes, his eyes were lighting green, like...like... driping acid... YES driping acid... he is there for us, I ain't going there again..."
No words are spoken as some of the patrons leave the inn and the bartender expects another bad night for the business...

More whispers of dragon activity circulate through the Gems Taverns, as armed patrols found at least thirty goblin dead and near ten ogres dead in the passes, most burnt to a cinder in massive fiery explosions.

A tall, dark-headed wizard with a neatly trimmed beard joins in the discussions briefly.
"Rumors of a dragon? Quite probable, considering the history of the North and the numerous eye witnesses thus far. However, it is important to note certain inconsistencies in the anecdotal evidence. Most of the eye witnesses reported a blue dragon. I'm sure I don't need to remind you that blue dragons are known for electricity, whereas the recent explosions were as from fire. Unless there are two dragons, and I pray to the gods that is not so, something here is inconsistent.
I would urge you all to keep your wits about you, and be alert for any particular sign of the dragon. Appearance and effect are quite important for diagnosing the particulars of the Wyrm, as well as the particular size of the creature which can give clues to its age and thus its power. This information will be useful to dissuade its presence, or arm the proper authorities with the information needed to drive it off. I would beg you to carefully write your testimony down, as soon after the incidence as possible, and relay this information to the Legion or to the Knights in Silver."

"There are other dangerous beings capable of such large scale destruction besides dragons," the gold haired elf quipped from the corner. Taking a surprisingly hearty sip from his flagon, he eyes Marcus with a knowing look and winks.

Re: Tavern knowledge - post your rumours and gossip here
The booming laugh cut across the hullabaloo of the Brightblades. Even the roughest dockhand felt inclined to smile as he looked through the smokey haze to see it's author.
The man leaned back in his chair, feet upon the table in a pool of spilled ale. The attentive sat or leaned against the wooden wall as he talked. Several steins lined up before him were testament to the story occasionally being held ransom for refreshment.
He leaned forwards…
"It came out of the sky like an avalanche of screaming, spitting hate" He said throwing an arm in the air and flying it down towards the collection of empty cups and screeching a sound from his mouth that made a young lass near him cover her ears.
"Barrelling into the ridge it leapt at us across the snow, barbed tail slick with deadly poisons and lashing behind it like a flame in the wind. Again it came with roaring and with wings out to the side, wider...*he looked around* wider than that barge moored right outside this window if not more again!" A young man looked towards the window only to jump as the ruddy haired storyteller flapped his arms once and let out and ear rumbling roar. The young mans friends jeered at his flinch and the storyteller chuckled with them. "I don’t blame you lad, I was considering climbing a tree at this point and worrying it wasn't just the snow making the strides damp" A titter of laughter from the watchers as he felt around his breeches with feigned nervousness.
He leaned back in his chair.
"But then it wasn't coming just at me. Those I walked with had no thoughts of soiled trousers or hidey holes. Even though the biting wind threatened to pick any one of us up and cast us from the ridge...swords were in hands in an instant, axes raised, eyes were bright... " he shook his head in dramatic disbelief, "the bravery of my friends brought me back from my thoughts of flight".
Suddenly exploding into action he'd kicked his chair back, rolled and come to his feet in a fighter crouch, eyes glinting, sword drawn.
"The elf Arathil, magic on his lips and golden hair flying, desperately blocks the talloned wing to his left guarding his comrades side fearlessly then thrusts and guards holding back the beasts attack to the left" He waved the sword and then raised a serving platter as a shield before pouncing to his right.
"Grim faced as ever Ward, Priest of Kelevmor stoically drove into the left flank all but ignoring the gashes the dragonkins talons made. Soaking up a battering I’ve not seen since my last visit to Waterdeep when on Aurils whim smashed a full trireme against the stone piers I swear! He was beaten again and again but", a wry smile, "his lord as work for him still”.
“And then Gruu, such a mild mannered and calm ..woman….well. “he jumps onto a table and adopts a wild look, “I’m not sure if you’ve seen a small mountain lose it’s temper but that’s exactly what happened!!” the storyteller let out a warbling battel cry and pounded on the imaginary beast and a few regulars grinned in appreciation obviously knowing Gruu. “Lets just say her axe came away redder than an Aunaroch sunset and me with new thoughts about who was more dangerous, the beast or my comrade!”
“And that only left our budding Knight in Silver”, a small chorus of cheers from the off duty knights at the bar who had probably heard the report from Sylvane herself, “ Bearing the brunt of the attack she did. Between the bulk of gruu and the grace of Arathils guard her small sword again and again dipped into the raised throat of this, the horrible grandfather of all wyverns. Blood splattered her shining armour, the emblem of your own Silverymoon on her tabard, “shouts of approval as he danced back and forth jabbing with furious conentration,” but calmly she worked without backwards step until she landed the killing blow…but….in the same moment…..”he paused for effect leaning close then SLAMMED the sword over his head onto the table making everyone jump”, the beasts tail slammed against her piercing her side and sending a gout of blood, hissing with poison, to the snow beneath!!” He shook his head in the exclamations and silence that followed as it turned into questions for the rest of the tale. And then looked up at them with a careful smile….
“You’ll have to wait to hear what happens my friends. And also about the day warriors of Silverymoon joined forces with the orcs!!!
After some disappointment he had to wave down the questions and friendly jeers about his own role he took a long draught from the final pint. “Of course I didn’t run!!! Just when one of my comrades weakened, who was there to support him? When a crossbow bolt hid the beasts head to make it rise opening his throat to be cut, who shot that bolt!?!? And when the heroic lady Sylvane fell, who was chivalrous enough to catch her!!!!???” The crowd roared its’ approval and broke into laughter along with him at his good natured and obvious exaggeration of his part in the battle.

Word spreads that bandits have grown more bold, and a supply cavern headed to Citadel Felbar from Silverymoon had been attacked and raided. Apparently the mercenaries guarding it were not enough.
Many question why it was being guarded by mercenaries instead of the Argent Legion.

Re: Tavern knowledge - post your rumours and gossip here
The Rivermoot House Invincible garrison commander has been overheard asking travellers and merchants for any and all information relating to the recent spate of acts of banditry on the roads, mostly directed at the reports of a Wonderbringer's caravan being attacked and robbed as well as the ones in the Silverymoon Pass destined for Citadel Felbarr. He has been seen to be speaking quietly with several Argent Legion officers and non-coms, as well as spending quite a bit of time with the rather hirsute half-breed known as Grull.
Several pundits quip that the latter activity seems to be focused on a combination of weapons training and attempts to teach the hulking brute some table manners.

Two House Invincible knights were carrying on a small bit chatter as the changing of the guard took place last pre-dawn.
Apparantly there was a good bit of surprise that an orc-blood was formally inducted into service ........using the Great Chapel in House Invincible itself nonetheless!
Some say the orcblood is killer, a murderer of the cult of the Frostmaiden and not to be trusted. Some evoked the memory of Knut Horthor, the simpleton with checker history with the Church of Helm.
One guard, however, mentioned Overblade Kull Gorbulk, who despite his heritage is known as one of the most disciplined disciples of Helm in all the north.

To which the other guard replied, "Kull Gulbork? I know Kull Gulbork and that one, sir, is no Kull Gulbork! Funny you should mention Knight Warder Gulbork, though. I just this morning heard he's returning from his secret mission to parts unknown. Might be trouble. He's a great knight, but you know how suspicious he is of his own kind. Personal experience, you know."

Re: Tavern knowledge - post your rumours and gossip here
Word circulates in alarmed tones throughout Silverymoon that something extremely disturbing has been going on in the Catacombs. People worriedly discuss the latest reports of what many seem to feel a failing in the famous Mythal surrounding Silverymoon. Rumour has it that the Undead Plague has taken a turn for the worse with such abominations as varied as undead diseased rats on up to plagued zombie ogres, and many other nasty versions in between, being reported met and destroyed by the ever vigilant Helmite guards at the entrance including one flaming sword wielding officer of House Invincible. The young officer reportedly bade the men at the entrance to the crypts remain at readiness while he went on a sweep of the grounds alone. He returned several hours later, covered in gore and guts, but appeared to be nearly unharmed after what was obviously a rather unpleasant patrol, sporting only minor flesh wounds.
An armed and fire bearing cleaning crew was requested dispatched from House Invincible to remove the several dozen tainted corpses from the first two levels, a number of the larger specimens having apparently been purposely immolated after their animating force was destroyed, concievably to avoid the taint's spreading to nearby corpses or even the living.
