Kid,
Has the ping been an ongoing problem for you with the BG server or is the a new development?
Are you getting lag when you enter the server with NWN2?
The server seems to be up and I can access it remotely, but I'm getting the same ping timeout messages here at work.

Been PMing some tech folks and needed a place to attach docs to, is all.
There's no problem with the servers.
I am getting a ping from the BG and it looks fine. still unable to connect to any of ALFA servers/
Hopefuly someone smart would come up with an idea. (:
thanks.

Pings and trace-routes go over ICMP, a different protocol than TCP or UDP (NWN and many games use UDP). So just because you can ping don't mean you can play (obviously). Those IPs look correct, so it isn't a DNS issue. I would bet the problem is with your local network or some weird firewall issue. Try connecting your PC as close to teh internets as you can, bypassing your router. Then try stealing your neighbor's WiFi. Disable all firewalls and anti-virus software. Try shit and see what happens.
I am not much of a gamer anymore, but when in college I had to run a number of games through a proxy I set up at a friend's house. The dorm sys admins weren't exactly gamer-friendly.
If no luck, try running the command "telnet bg.alandfaraway.org 3389". This will open a TCP port to BG (will probably work for all our servers), though the server won't respond. If it works you're at least connecting at the IP layer, which is something. If it fails you'll see a "connection refused" message or something of the sort.

*nods*
Is what i told him to do.
Though he first need to enable telnet, as it does not come out of the box in windows 7.
Follow the steps here:
http://www.fettesps.com/windows-7-enable-telnet/
Then copy paste the telnet string Ronan gave to command prompt window.
אגב, אם אתה משתמש ב 012 - הם חוסמים פורטים באופן שיטתי גם אם הם לא מודים בזה. יש מצב שהם יספרו סיפור שצריך לעבור לחבילת גיימר או משהו כזה.

What happens when you attempt to do a direct connect to bg.alandfaraway.org?

The very strange thing is that kid is able to connect to TSM but not to any other ALFA server.
Most simple firewalls will block an application completely or not at all.
This sounds very strange.
The telnet test is a good one indeed.
Maybe a log file says something on your side (I haven't find anything on BG's side) but I don't remember where they are on Windows.
Can someone post where the logs are stored on the client side ?

Have stopped being able to connect to TSM either.
Unlike all other servers it gives the message "server found. attempting to ..." Before giving in to the "server is not responding (timed out)"
Anyway, will try and switch providers when i've the time.
Thanks for the help... this is funky.
I blame Foam. None of this would have happened with Jern as TA.

No, it's because Ronan is a quitter and stepped down!

Ok, telnet to BG seems to work...
Which leaves us with...?

A problem with UDP to the US most probably.
Your provider may have put a filter so that UDP traffic doesn't impact more important traffic like IPPhone, Web, Mail...

Hey that was fast
If I had to do that here it would take me at least 2 weeks.
Glad it solved your issue.
