BG is UP !!!

Post by paazin »

BG is down with hardware issues for a while (a week or more).

We'll update as news comes in.

Edit by Hialmar: it's UP now.
People talk of bestial cruelty, but that's a great injustice and insult to the beasts; a beast can never be so cruel as man, so artistically cruel.

Re: BG Down with no ETA

Post by AcadiusLost »

My backup hosting box is still mostly intact; however, I pulled the power supply out of it a few months back- it's a significant step down in terms of processor and drive speed though, and would be sharing bandwidth with the MS hostbox if utilized.

Should I be setting aside some time to get it reassembled and plugged in to do interim hosting for BG again, or would the switchover and back again be more trouble than it's worth? Let me know...

Thanks for being patient with your host. Ronan and Paazin have done yeoman's work diagnosing the failing drive.
I managed to clone the original drive on to a new hard drive that isn't damaged.
The machine is booting up fine and with luck the DMs will be able to connect remotely and start getting BG back on its feet again.

After all is said and done I think we're going to chat about RAID. A little redundancy would be grand at a time like this. :-)

Unsurprisingly, the Linux VM got corrupted. So we'll have to remake it. I should have some time to do that tonight if no one gets to it before me.

Any updates on this?

Last word we got was the server being alive but without necessary VMs.

Yes, I think that probably needs some help.

I have an image of TSM's Linux VM (which is relatively portable to new environments), but that expects to run under Hyper-V and not VMware.

We could consider rigging up a temporary VPN to use its vault connection as a stopgap, but that takes an extra dependency on TSM being up.

Anyone who wants to help is of course welcome to! It looks like paazin was installing ubuntu on a VM, but the installation seems to have hung. I'm trying again with lubuntu, which worked without issue the first go around.

Ok the server is running and connected to the vault.

If someone could test if everything is okay and post here that would be nice.

Edit: Brokenbone confirmed that it's up and working.
