A Land Far Away

Module seems not to load up at all, and no Character Select appears on BG. Yesterday was working fine.

Anyone got an idea what happened? 2 other PCs are online Ok at the time.

You upgrade to 1.90? I think maybe BG is still on 1.89

follow up: Just for kicks I tried to log in to BG -- am getting the same thing as Gala.

Log-in halts at the "Checking for Out-of-date content" phase.

OK-- so now I tried BG using "direct connect" to the IP and it works fine but if logging in from gamespy history doesn't work.

whew i thought i as done for... but since my problem above, I have not tried again...

I ws already fully updated to 1.90, and after updating was in game for a game session working fine.

The next day, this happened.

I have not tried again, so i'll try after work today and hopefully it will work. Or i'll roll up a new PC.

I'm unsure how to reproduce what you're seeing here. Connection operates fine from me.

Are you sure you're connecting to 'bg.alandfaraway.org' ?

Did you download all the haks and are you sure they're installed on your system?

Stupid question, but have you tried backing out entirely your log in, and typing it in fresh? I accidentally added a . to end of mine once, and seemed like what you describe.

It's also possible that your machine is just being a little bit slow to tell if it needs to download stuff.

That can take a long time, even if you did all of your downloading on a different server.

I tried again a day later (yesterday night) and just let it sit there and it did work - but just took a very very long time with nothing at all happening so even when load times take a long time usually it was such a long time and literally nothing at all was indicating that it was working, the first time just seemed like it just was not going to work ever.

But since other PCs were online, I knew BG was working, so i just sat there and waited this time, and literally nearly 10 minutes of NOTHING... again I almost shut it down again, but waited, and it did work.

All this may be related to the fact that I have some problems with the backup download location.

If the backup location is first in the list then it may take a lot of time to time out and then go to the primary location.

I'll check that this evening.

Ah well the backup download location works again it seems.

Might be a temporary problem.
