If you're that concerned about what your pc does/does not know...pm me. I can get up with you before or after our two weekly sessions for the players of your timezone and do some figuring out of what is "commonly known". Saying that things are commonly known depends on whom you ask though.....

For example, does the Flaming Fist patrol the cloakwood?.... HELL NO. Not unless there is a great disturbance affecting the road and trade. Flaming FIst patrol the roads, and keep dern well away from the woods unless they have a specific reason for entering the wilds....

A hunter, however, might be exactly the opposite. He may use all of the backtrails, keeping off the main road to maximize his hunting potential. Now, is your character going to have the wisdom to gleen information from every demographic? Do they possess knowledge skills that would help out in the equation? THese are things for the dm's to work out with the players, not for the players to automatically assume they know since they've read every available resource on Baldur's Gate and saw a bunch of posts in the OOC forum about where spawns are and how often they respawn and what those spawns are. If people are that intent about gaining knowledge of what types of spawns are well, I will eagerly do a weekly update to the server, to change the spawn locations, the type of spawns, and the number of spawns. I am sure something can be scripted eventually that just switches out spawns after a certain amount of time, so b.s. like this is an uncertain...which is what it should be.

Considering I was not the OP, ive no idea why you have decided I am trying to pry information out. WTH?

So yes, they could easily tell you that the Cloakwood is dangerous and some would even have an idea what might be in there considering their patrols stop at the Friendly Arm Inn which is right next to the forest.

You could do that every single day, that won't change the fact that there most certainly would be common knowledge about what locations are dangerous and rumors about why might be there. Yes, I understand that stating specific locations, spawn timers etc are Meta, but your essentially saying not to ask out of game about anything that any person strolling about could tell you.

I was sort of under the impression that because of DPSS, that mob spawns would change on a frequent basis, introducing a level of randomness to it all, so saying that x spawns in y, is a bit too temporary to really be meta.

But, end of the day, your server, your rules. I shall endeavour to keep myself ignorant. :P

I was merely trying to answer the question of how one would know what they know...perhaps I was a bit too specific, but the same applies to anyone...if you need common knowledge PM me and I will do my best to get IG and make the rolls. Sorry if it seemed I picked you out Swift, this applies to anyone, not just you.

I'm just trying to limit the complete meta OOC b.s. that did exsist here. If we want a "common knowledge" thread that is info without the use of ONE OF OUR SKILLS, GATHER INFORMATION, I will be happy to make one. However, I will not punish those that have put ranks in gather information by handing out free information this way and that about every detail of the server.

Besides all that, I think it safe to assume any area not civilized, where you don't see guards, can be dangerous. that's a no-brainer. As to the why a place is dangerous...well, that information is best left told between pc's, or gathered with the gather info/knowledge local skills actively IG. After all, there are places on the server that the locals would simply tell you, Don't go in there, no one comes back alive" because no one knows what is there.
