Healing Kit Recall

Post by Rotku »

It's just been pointed out to us that some of the OEI Healing Kits (that shipped with the game) have gone into circuit. These have been replaced in ALFA with our own Healing Kits, which are designed to act more closely to what PnP tells us they should.

If you happen to have come into possession of one of these healing kits, please contact a DM and they'll do an exchange for a proper ALFA one.

The exchange period will last for a month or so, after which it'll be suggested that DMs just remove any OEI healing kits they find.

[Waiting on information as to how to tell which is which - it might be amazingly obvious, but I'll add it in here once I learn]

Could we at least make it so our healing kits DO something? You know like give a chance to cure poison/disease or add more healing when we rest like in ALFA 1? not much point to having points in the heal skill these days.

From what I understand they do:
<Curmudgeon>: They work like the ALFA NWN1 kits, afaik
<Curmudgeon>: Give you 2 points/level back on resting.
<Curmudgeon>: Improve the DC roll to recover from disease or poison. Or however that works
If not this, what do they do?

Last time I checked and tried to use it(albeit it was a while ago) it said, "Healing kits can only be used on unconscious creatures."

Yep...I even had mine take a trip to TSM to get kits from there hoping to help PC's deal with disease and/or poison on BG. They do nothing. The message I recieve when attempting to use them is something like: "This PC does not appear to be in need of healing..."

Arsa's healing pouch is basically a cure minor wounds pouch. I know there is a long list of scripting that needs to be done, but cleric's ability to use healing is currently restricted to dispensing HP's only.

I recently proposed a "work-around" wherein clerics could be given a few cure poison & cure disease potions via DM and only be allowed to use them after making a successful heal check against a DC given in advance. While at first glance this perhaps seems to be placing quite a bit of trust in players (given that these potions are obscenely expensive and scarce), but it actually would be easy to take a screenie and document use IG.

As it now stands PC's can easily die from disease IG (and one nearly did recently while my cleric stood by helplessly). I'm frankly amazed that this departure from canon has been ignored for so long and seems to be completely "off-the-radar" of our canon police :chin:

My ignorance is complete. The ALFA NWN2 Healing kits offer a +2 circumstance bonus to Heal attempts on unconcious/bleeding PCs only. One charge per use. There is a MW Healing kit available that gives a higher bonus. My apologies for any misunderstanding.

As far as disease or poison is concerned, these are matters for priestly healing. At BRM's request, Wynna has adapted the TSM NPC priest scripts to BG, to help alleviate the need for DM-moderated healing.

Any chance of an explanation as to what this means and how it works?

I can say unequivically it is frustrating trying to play a good aligned cleric who cannot heal anything IG. It would be helpful to at least know what to tell diseased/poisoned PC's to do IG to get healed.

PS:

just checked IG:

Potion of antidote - $1961 gp,
Herbal healing kit (of cure minor wound, single use) - $107 gp

If the "solution" is of commensurate cost, well...need I whine more

Are those prices from a temple? Sold by a priest?

Yep...potion from Brother Maynard at Lathander's shrine. Herb kit is from Arsa the herbalist, not a cleric or temple, but the only NPC I have found who offers a healing kit.

That comes down to someone's strange sense about how an economy works...

Yes, well, as that person is not currently the HDM, perhaps we can make for a more balanced idea of economy.
