Repeatable Quest Suggestions

Post by Magonushi »

Just thought I'd start up a thread to get some more brainstorming going. There seem to be quite a few good ones already but I don't see a need to stop there.

Hunting: Bring in meet and pelts (most valuable meets from herbivores, most valuable pelts from rare animals). Hardest part would be getting wild game to run away when appropriate.

Maybe set up skill checks to be run when walking through wilderness. First a spot or listen check to detect an animal and then hide and move silently checks to avoid having the animal run off. If run off is triggered just have the animal removed from the area and print out a message *the [wild animal] runs off as you approach*

Begging: Ask any commoner for a spare coin. Challenge would be based on charisma skill checks and would probably need some kind of inventory check to see what the person is wearing. Throw in a random chance of the NPC not having coin and this could be a mini-quest for rogues, low levels, and just plain poor PCs.

Robbery: Much like begging only it begins with an intimidate check. If that fails the NPC may fight back, run, call the guards or any combination thereof. (You might also want to include the option to run a pick pocket skill check instead of intimidate.)

Performances: Usually this is thought of as bard only material but skills other than perform could be used such as diplomacy, sleight of hand, lore, tumble, or maybe even the casting of a spell or two. Could potentially expand to giving sermons at temples or shrines or performing a hymn.

Patrols: Daggerford me up. You know the drill. Walk around the neighborhoods of BG and Beregost intercepting thieves. March up and down the country roads killing goblins, orcs, and the occasional killer bunny.

Grunt Work: Farmin', fishing, fedexin', mining, chopping wood, scribing. Whatever needs doing farm or library, mine shaft or freight shop giving the PCs the option of working normal jobs for some added income might allow for some usually unexplored RP opportunities.

Anyways that's what I can think of off the top of my head. My idea is to offer PCs that don't already have solid DM attention (usually newer PCs) the opportunity to do something interesting that helps define their character, get a little XP and loot, and hopefully meet like minded PCs.

Caravan guards.

Guides. (Although I know some people hate escort quests :p)

Candlekeep could give Scribe quests.

Couriers delivering messages between towns.

It'd be nice to also see some Sword Coast content - ships and stuff. The ship between BG and Waterdeep was neat.

Pimpin - CHA/Persuade to convince female commoners (or even male commoners) to sell their bodies and give you the money. Intimidate rolls to enforce getting your money. add Pimp slap feat. Appraise skill to find and hire muscle to guard your 'hood. Heal skill, so you can detect diseases early on and nip them in the bud before it spreads all throughout your 'hood.
<Burt>: two dudes are better than one.

DMG v.3.5 p.6, 8, and 14

Hunting is definitely one i've been interested in for some time. Running away isn't too bad but figuring out when the game really does get away is tougher.

I've been trying to beg Rick for ages to "Daggerford up" my Flaming fist set up, probably restrict alignments on joining.

I might do something performance wise, but have some other plans for bard specific quests.

The (robbery, begging, pimping) aren't likely to be included as i don't think that the game world could be accurately scripted to respond to these people's social status. There are a lot of complex factors with these that make them poor static choices.

I don't like fed-ex quests much, a lot of these just end up being silly and not particularly random. This goes for a lot of grunt work, and i dont' think anyone particularly enjoys this sort of "fetch" quest. I'd opt for more dungeons and more dragons, but if folks really want these i wouldn't veto patches.

So, ideas are great.... patches are better! I'm only one person and if you want to see certain things, build them! My module is 100% open to you and all players.
There's a place I like to hide
A doorway that I run through in the night
Relax child, you were there
But only didn't realize and you were scared
It's a place where you will learn
To face your fears, retrace the years
And ride the whims of your mind

Does this only mean that we can make new areas or is there a way for us to DL current areas to add content into them?

Both. Ultimately i will decide what goes and stays, and i may send things back to you for revision (please don't take offense when i do so), but this is all a group effort. We're in it together. People have already done work to add areas and change areas.
