Ok. so let me just start of buy saying i'm so happy to be here. but here is the deal.
i love to rollplay. but at times my spelling kinda sucks. this has stoped me in the passed of trying RP servers becuse i felt i would be flamed when trying to RP.
so im going to give it a shot becuse i have played PnP for over 15 years.

i'm in love with playing clerics. i have always played them in PnP. and have always played cleric types in MMO's as in healers and DDO.
but seeing my spelling is not the best. would playing a Cleric in ALFA be ok.. or shod i try playing a dumer class?

...my spelling gets worse as the tension gets higher...it's not how you spell it, but whether PC's can understand it that counts, I would think.

One of my engineering buddies is quite infamous for his poor spelling...wait a minute! ...is that you, James?!

Depends on the faith your cleric is supporting

No one will be suprised to see a poorly spoken peasant who became a cleric of Chauntea, likewise a gutter mouthed sailor cleric of Umberlee wont seem out of place either.

If you arent going to take care and spell correctly most people will assume your PC is speaking poorly. This shouldnt stop you from making a cleric but maybe it should stop you from playing a cleric of gods of education, wizardry, or high society. (Oghma, Deneir, Velsharoon, Siamorphe, and Azuth)

What is much more important than you spelling correctly is knowing your gods dogma and morals. Knowing your gods friends and enemies

My RL brother has significant spelling problems and decided long ago to just play play dwarves and let his phonetic spelling appear to be an accent.

As the others mentioned, poor spelling will only be an issue if it starts to make other folk have a hard time staying immersed in the RP.

Until you start channeling LordPsycho, you will not have been the worst speller to be around here.

If you are really self-conscious about your spelling, then like others have suggested turn it into an in-character role-play device. Otherwise, I'd say don't worry about it too much and if someone gives you too hard a time about it tell them to sod off and then avoid them.
