Hail, and well met!

Hello everyone.

I'm Sam, who will hopefully be joining you guys soon on his elven wizard, Samael Creed. (Yes, I know, my name is Sam his is Samael, I'm just not that inventive when it comes to names :P). I usually play a rogue, simply for the jack-of-all-trades/support aspect of the character, however I wanted to try something different this time and went with a wizard hoping to achieve the same effect by using buff's such as bull's strength or mage armour to boost mine and my friend's lowly combat abilities. It will be interesting to say the least. However, even though this is not my usual playing style, I don't consider him a throw away character and will be doing my utmost to keep him alive, so if you have any tips for me, please fire away.

A bit about me. I'm live in Shropshire, England, in the middle of no where, meaning despite my love of all things geeky, I have no one to play with (the closest DnD group is over an hour away :(). Hence, my turning to the internet for salvation. I've played a variety of games, from MUDs (Discworld is my favourite, due to my Terry Pratchett fandom) to browser based games such as eRepublik (if you want an invite to eRepublik please email me at creed.sam@gmail.com and I'll send you one).

I'm a total bibliophile and have a collection of books that rivals my local library, however I need to sell some soon as I'm running out of shelf space. (Of course this means I will just buy more to replace them :P). I love learning new stuff and am currently trying to teach myself Japanese and the guitar. (Not simultaneously, of course). I love horror movies, especially zombie movies. Can't think of much else to say, if you have any questions for me, let me know. And I hope to see you all soon.

Good luck on your second character! :)

Heh...I resemble that remark myself

If you are new to PW play, I would have to say you face a steep uphill climb with that stategy. If you want to go hand-to-hand and kill things IG, I would try it with another class. But the emphasis in ALFA is RP, and if your fellow is a smart magic user he will likely spend some time talking with other PC's before plowing into combat anyway, in which case he might get lucky and find some IC fun that not so deadly.

It's all about fun, though...so welcome aboard, matey! :D

I look forward to meeting your's IG soon.

Quick query. Which is better to play on (ie which has more people playing it) the NWN1 server or NWN2 server? I only ask because I while I have both games, I only have NWN1 installed at the moment due to replaying the old campaigns, but can easily install NWN2 if it's worth doing.

From what I understand the NWN1 servers are winding down and although some are keeping campaigns going on one or two, you would have to find the players involved to join in on scheduled events.

The NWN2 servers are quite active and growing, so I'd say go NWN2.

Do I need any of the NWN2 expansions? MotB, MoW or SoZ?

*prays that you dont need them because he only has the offical campaign*

Need MotB and will need SoZ soon. I think you'll be hard pressed to find a PW that doesn't use expansion content.

Dang. Guess I'm stuck on the NWN1 server for now.

We're on SoZ, I think if you have that one you'll be up to date without MoB.

I don't even know what MoZ is, so I imagine you wouldn't need it. Hopefully AL or someone more informed than me on the subject will offer some clarification on that though

He probably means Mysteries of Westgate.

Yup. I meant Mysteries of Westgate. I'm looking into buying the expansions now, but amazon doesn't seem to have MotB in stock and I can't buy direct from atari. :(

Quickest option if you can live without the actual cardboard box is direct 2 drive:

Pretty decent pricing too.

I like having a hard copy of the game available so I can install on my other machines if I want, or reinstall at a later date. I still dig out Dungeon Master and Baldur's Gate when the mood takes me, hence direct dowload isn't really an option. Ebay, might be the way to go it seems. I just need to wait a few days till payday.

Welcome to ALFA! It is good to create your first character keeping in mind that he will likely die - likely mauled in an alley by a lone rat. Save a character concept and name you have spent alot of time on for your second character which will have a better chance at survival once you have gotten used to the basics of play.

Creed as a last name sound pretty human to me or at least half-elven. You might choose to take one of the many canon elven surnames. I've been using my wiki to compile information for Myth Drannor as I build that server. Last few days I've been reading Elminster in Myth Drannor and jotting down all the elven names and houses as I run across them for future use on elven npcs. Elven Houses

((now that I see the page I better tidy it up))
