Hello, I'm new and a bit ignorant....

I have read through the ALFA players manual and still have a few questions. I played Daggerford/Haze PW's for years, but since that community's collapse I've only played only one other, so I'm a bit PW ignorant.
I see OAS NWN1 and OAS NWN2....what does OAS stand for and are we NWN1 or NWN2?
I have been playing on the Tales of Moonsea PW, but recently have become disheartened that it can ever become a truely immersive RP server due to it's ruleset allowing unregulated respawn for PC's and the corresponding issues that creates for RP. My question is this: I already have worldgate set up and have used it to load the custom hak.s for ToM, do I have to figure out how to wipe these hak.s and then restart with ALFA, or can I just ignore them and download ALFA's haks and let the server sort them out. I realize this is probably a pretty dumb question, but I don't jump around from server to server and have no experience making transitions.

Multiple HAKs can co-exist in the hak folder with no isssues..
just download all ALFA haks log in and play?~
The module you connect to sorts out what is needed on your end
**makes it sound so easy**
Good luck with your second char

Hello! I remember you.
e: OAS stands for Open (?) Application Server. I don't think either OAS has any haks. There are several 'live' (not OAS nor beta) nwn1 servers and one live nwn2 server.

You may just find a few familiar names in these parts. Unless they changed them. Like I did.
what does OAS stand for
Open Application Server.
are we NWN1 or NWN2?
Yes. Both. Take your pick. And once you're "in", you can switch freely. Any member of ALFA can play on any server of ALFA.
can I just ignore them and download ALFA's haks and let the server sort them out.
Yes. Just point WorldGate at the ALFA HAKs, and Bob's your uncle.

Welcome! Get in game!
NWN1 ALFA or NWN2 or better yet ...both!
Just for clarification.
The NWN1 and NWN2 platforms are both set in the Forgotten Realms. But they are kind of like two separate prime material planes. Events that occur on NWN1 ALFA do not affect NWN2 and vice versa.
You can play one PC in ALFA NWN1 and another PC NWN2.
The OAS is meant for applicants to use for gaining membership. You can also apply in writing.
Looking forward to seeing you.

Welcome to ALFA mate!
Please excuse the documentation, we've recently switched to a new website system, still working on some of the documentation, so stuff like the OAS I'm afraid isn't mentioned much right now.
Since your application was promptly accepted though, you won't have to worry about that

K...thanks bunches for all the help. I've got another dumb question or two though

.
From what I've read it seems as if there are multiple servers to choose from. Is there a tread I missed that explains this and offers some information to help one choose?
I cannot seem to figure out how to import an avatar for my profile. I did see a FAQ post on this subject, but after reading it I was no less baffled. Can anyone briefly explain in simpler terms what the deal is on this?
I'm very gratified to see that we have Daggerford/Hazians here....I'm now certain I have found the right server for me

. For you Hazian's out there I will likely redeploy Rugo after exploring a bit with a preliminary new PC (he never died on Haze). He will be back at first level, of course, and his history modified a bit to fit this new world. I know none of you would assume to know anything about him anyway, but I thought I'd just mention it incase it seems a bit awkward when you run into him. I've done so much work on that PC concept I just cannot resist reconfiguring him and carrying him forward until he finally meets an IG end.
I'm really looking forward to seeing all you Daggerford/Hazians IG soon

.....you really can't imagine how much I've missed you guys

In ALFA, we have always had multiple servers, interconnected, allowing characters to traverse them as they see fit.
Currently, only the NWN1 part allows for this, as the only live NWN2 server right now is TSM. We are however getting ready to launch BG (Baldurs Gate) for NWN2, with Skullport being next in line. There are also other NWN2 projects reaching later beta stages, so we should be able to possibly have 4 or so NWN2 servers live and linked up by some time in 1st half 2009.
To change your avatar, go to the 'User Control Panel' (
http://www.alandfaraway.org/forums/ucp.php)
Pick 'Profile' and then click 'Edit Avatar'

K...many thanks for the warm welcome and all the info. I've got my NWN2 haks sorted (I hope

) and my password, and now I'm ready to make the plunge.
Just one more silly question....what is the name of the server I'm trying to join (assuming TSM is an abreviation)?
Better yet...what is the direct connect address?

Direct Connect @ 75.75.5.218
Server lists (I think) as ALFA_The Silver Marches in the PW stroy section of gamespy

The ALFA haks should coexist well enough with haks for other NWN1 or NWN2 servers. If you want to be compulsive, you could rename your existing hak folder to something like hak.haze or hak.daggerford just to keep them separate, and create a new, empty hak folder for the ALFA haks.
The haks for NWN1 ALFA and NWN2 ALFA are very different, live in different parts of your harddrive, and need to be DLed separately.
Your Override folders, (NWN1 or NWN2) are another thing entirely, as these are often used by other PWs to add additional content that doesn't work well in haks, or needs to be loaded before haks, or for other reasons. These
can cause conflicts with ALFA's custom content, and I strongly recommend you rename your existing Override folders as I suggested for the hak folders. NWN2 also has a UI folder that can contain files that will mess with the ALFA content, and again I suggest you rename that.
There is one more file you'll need for either ALFA NWN1 or NWN2, and that is the *.tlk file. This should live in your tlk folder, but, like the haks, doesn't care about other files in there. The ALFA NWN2 WorldGate setup will take care of this automatically. I'm not sure about ALFA - NWN1 WorldGate.
In any event, good luck and welcome to ALFA. I hope to see you soon on The Silver Marches.
