It's a tradition. The first character of a new player rarely survives long. It's not that we're out to get you, it's just that ALFA is dangerous and dead means dead. So "good luck on your second character" is not only ment quite literally, it's also intended as advice not to play your "favourite character concept" straight away.
Test the waters first.
Get a feel for the place.
Die.
And then start for real.

Heh, lost my second character last night .. can I get a Good Luck on your third character? I haven't even made it into a city yet .. Yikes .. but what's Dwarf going to do ... the guard wouldn't let me into Luskan ... asked me for Papers .. HA ... and he copped an attitude... so I thought I would adjust it ... but I guess I was the one that got an adjustment!!
