Hello everyone, I've been around the NWN community for about a year and a half and I believe now is the time I shall finally give ALFA a shot.
I stopped by the OAS last night for a bit...until I ended up locked in the house of that guy from the Inn

At least he wasn't in there! That guy is a creep!
I also need to wait for a few days so I can download the haks because this connection is a tad slow for that.
Hopefully, I get in the main server soon enough and I can RP with you all.

Hey and welcome!! I am glad you came by!
Keep at the OAS, and also fill out an online app at the main site.
If you want the haks when accepted just shoot me a PM an I will mail them to you on CD!

Welcome Xerah. Glad to see you're trying ALFA on for size.
I've been stuck in a room at the inn as well...it afforded me the opportunity to RP with a DM to get out. Perhaps you will have the same good fortune.

But I actually had something left on my clipboard. Hope this will make my idiocy up even a bit.
What about crafting? Am I able customize my clothing? I tried last night but it told me that crafting traps is not an option but nothing about crafting armour.
Crafting is currently not supported. It can be done but only with a DM.
Oh, also, the IC forums, arw there any odd rules I need to know about? In Avlis, I was told that anything that gets posted on there is automatically IC knowledge. Needless to say, I didn't stay there after I heard that.
Check
this thread here.

Read over the player's manual if you get a chance, that should help answer many of your questions.
You may have already mentioned this in your post that was "processed" by the valiant one.

Oh, shucks, I hope there are lots of interesting clothing.
My other question was regarding what server to play on, it seems Sembia is now the 'starting' server. Should my background be based upon this server? What about starting in a different server? My character is from Waterdeep.

You can play wherever you wish and your characters background can be whatever you wish.

Things to consider on server choice -
- "flavour" of the server - tend to the good, or evil? Rural / urban mix? Civilized / uncivilized?
- timezones when it's most busy... or as the case may be, dead
- word of mouth from whomever you might trust
You'll gain insights by peeking into server forums, or there'll be plenty of opinions in chat as well. So as a for-instance, someone who wants to play a military concept in the GMT -5ish zone might try Daggerford. Someone who wanted to play a Cyricist and wanted a temple to work from might try Sembia. A sailor type though probably wouldn't try kicking off their career somewhere landlocked, and an elven paladin probably would have an unusually hard time getting to a start in Skullport.... well unless as an entree or a slave or something.
Bonus of trying the starting server though is that a number of other entirely new folks will be in the same boat with you, and DMs will be on the lookout I'd assume, help folks integrate into plots etc.
Good luck, have fun and welcome!

Waterdeep rules! (the city, I can't speak for the sever...yet)
EDIT: Just want to add too that Nalo Jade has been looking for more low level players for his DM'd campaign. I'll see if I can dig up that thread for you. It would be a good way to start perhaps...
EDIT: Here's the link:
http://www.alandfaraway.org/phpbbforum/ ... hp?t=22041 I know s/he was broadcasting for level 1 - 3 wizards not long ago.

To have your gear customized just speak to a DM on your server. They can create something for you or you can make it yourself in the toolset and send them the erf. DM swaps it for your regular gear and presto! All done.
Welcome to ALFA.
