Warning! Warning! "Powergaming" ahead. Use this advice only if you can justify it in-character.

Right, now that we have that out of the way...
  • Check out the Able Learner feat, to put those bonus skillpoints to good use.
  • Consider the Bard class. They don't have to be prancing minstrels, you know?
  • Take a quick peak at the changed spells to make sure spells still do what they're supposed to do.
  • If you take a history feat, never take Wizard's Apprentice. Not even if your character apprenticed to a dozen or more. Unless, you know, it's IC. But even then...

Welcome mate.

Regarding NWN1 servers, as you seem to be playing ther efor a bit. Currently the main server you want to be looking at is Sembia. I believe there are two or three campaigns currently running, but as NWN1 is slowly winding down (as said above) these campaigns tend to only run once a week. Time wise, there are two (or one?) US based, and one Euro.

If you are looking for a bit more regular play, I'm afraid an investment in the expansion packs might be needed.

Getting the expansions for NWN2 was something I was going to do anyway sooner or later, this just gives me a reason. Though it will probably take me a couple of days to place the order due to lack of funds.

In regards to powergaming/minmaxing, I tend not to do it even when I can jutify it in character. I actually find it more fun giving my character a handycap and finding ways to overcome it. Makes thing more interesting. Though if a plain old rat can kill you then I might rethink this.

In regard to my surname/second name (whichever you wish to call it). Can I not just make my character human instead? My character background is such that it doesn't matter what race he is really.

Aelred's just been fussy. Call him what ever you want. Most people are stupid enough like myself not to notice any difference.

*decides to roll a fey-touched tiefling elf favored soul of Sune named Guenhwyvar Battlehammer for Rotku's next campaign* ;P

It's true that technically you can choose any name (within limits) you wish. But basing your character concept on canon details (and names) adds to immersion for everyone. It provides a solid jumping off point for roleplay......Did you say your last name was Starym? Of the famous Myth Drannor Staryms? I thought the last of them had left for Evermeet in the retreat! What brings you back to the Realms?

Any fey touched tiefling favoured soul I see is going to have their bones carved up to make me a nice door handle.

I think I'll just change to human. At least until I've brushed up on my lore enough to play an elf correctly.

I've just install NWN2 to have a look at the character creation part. There is so much more variety and flexibility than in in NWN1. The idea of the duelist was exsacly what I wanted for this character. I just didn't want a standerd fighter, I wanted someone who could use a sword with flair. Hence the idea of a wizard using magical augmentation to make him equal or better than just a standerd fighter.

Finding out that most people play ALFA on NWN2 has kind of thrown me for a loop. At least NWN1 I knew the rules. Maybe I should just play through the game first.

While as a general rule my good freind Hollyfant gives some of the most insightful advise to be found in the forum, I've got to recommend he examine the mushrooms he's been cooking with closely (see any purple bruising, mate?).

But seriously, bards are great fun for RP now with the introduction of the TLK, just not a good choice if you intend to chop nasties up. Admittedly I'm not very mechanics/pwrgame adept, but having played a bard for many months I would have to categorize it as an RP class.

But really, to be successful and have fun in ALFA, you're going to have emphasize RP anyway, regardless of class selection. I don't think the L1 or L2 min./max. tank exists that can venture out alone and keep coming back for long.

I can, but I spend hours upon hours using vordans hero creator to test my PG builds before implementing them on ALFA with a thin RP skin. :D . On NWN1 ALFA I once killed a minotaur with a lvl1 runshooty elf barbarian.

Actually my current PC is a vanilla fighter, cause I never expected to last that long on the first ALFA NWN2 server.... you guys must have gone soft on your spawns.

Maybe my character can hire a bodyguard or something once arrivingin a town. Though I can't tell if we start of with any money acording to the NWN2 rulesets in the player manuel. Maybe I can trade a scroll or two or a free identify with the lucky meatshi...I mean friendly fighter instead. :D

In the vanilla campaign you start with some gear (armor, a weapon or two, sometimes a shield). In ALFA your PC is stripped of gear on creation and given 300 gp to buy your own.
Current PC: Gareth Darkriver, errant knight of Kelemvor
Se'rie Arnimane: Time is of the essence!
Nawiel Di'malie: Shush! we're celebrating!

That sounds good. Maybe if I just get the bare escentials I might be able to hire a bodyguard.

I have a few more questions if that's ok?

What happens if or according to some, when my character dies? Do I need to reapply?

Is it ok for me to make minor changes to my application once it has been submitted/accepted, who do I talk to about doing this?

Where can I read up on the background/history/lore of where ALFA is set?
