newb in the house

Post by kelticpete »

My name is Pete Z. I have been playing NWN modules for sometime, but never really got into the online aspect.

I am 36. I am a sagitarrius..just kidding!

i have been gaming since I was 23. I met a couple of guys who gamed and told them, "Isn't that what nerds did in high school?" Then me and the guys were at a bar and they introduced me to a gorgeous woman who said she gamed with them. I said, "hey, yeah, I am going to game with them too!"

i got addicted.

Welcome indeed- please keep in touch on how you're settling in, we're here to help.

What time zone are you in, and what have you got cooking for an early character concept? It may help in determining a good server to get going on.

time and character

Post by kelticpete »

I am in central time. In San Antonio to be exact.

as for PC, I had an old tabletop character in mind.

His name is Artemis. He hails from tasseldale and is the son of the local defacto sherriff. He and his family are devout followers of Lathander, even the elder family members. His favorite uncle is a priest of Lathander.

Artemis, being trained in life by his father, is a first level fighter. However, he has been having a troubling dream over and over again, and in this dream he is fighting a black armored figure with a blacksword. Sometimes it seems artemis is about to strike the fatal blow. Sometimes it seems his opponent is about to slay Artemis. He then wakes up. His father says that Artemis moans in his sleep "must goto...(insert servername here)" over and over. Artemis has decided to go to that area and find the nearest priest of Lathander to ask about his dream. (little does artemis know he is about to be called to paladinhood by Lathander)

US Central is pretty handy for ALFA- can mix with East coast and west coast folks in the evenings.

Both Shadowdale and Daggerdale have significant Lathanderite temples- there is a notable one in Eveningstar in Norther Cormyr as well, but the former two are better chances to find other PCs during US evenings.

Daggerdale tends to have more players on at a given time, while Shadowdale has more scripted low-level material. I think you would be able to find good RP on either of those servers.

One warning is to consider playing a treasured PnP character as a second or third attempt, as sometimes it takes a few PC deaths to get the hang of things. My first PC was a recreation of a PnP mage I played for years, was rough to see him gone in the blink of an eye from a crossbow critical from an unseen opponent while inside town limits, about 3 hours into the ALFA experience. I'm still on my 2nd PC though, after more than 2 years of playing, so it can be done- just passing along the friendly advice. I've seem some people get pretty disheartened early on.

Hence the traditional "Welcome to ALFA, good luck on your second PC".

Hope to see you ingame.

Welcome home bud. I hope shadowdale treats you well. Let me know if the character situation with the vault does not get resolved, I'll try to do what I can from my end of things. Have a great stay, and let me know any time if you need anything or have any questions.
