Seems like I'm in a bit of trouble. I crash as soon as I go into the Old Skullport (is that the right name?) on the Shadowdale server. It sounds like a hak issue to me, so I'll try re-installing them later and the video card has the latest drivers.

Hopefully that fixes the problem because otherwise my character is stuck.

Definitely consider the hak updater... the Old Skull is for some reason notorious for causing crashes.

If that doesn't cut it, i.e., you fully update but still are in a crash loop, maybe try finding a Shadowdale DM in chat, they may be able to cause your PC to show up somewhere other than the Skull so that the issue isn't crippling.

There are other places to get a drink on the server anyhow. See you IG.

To have your gear customized just speak to a DM on your server. They can create something for you or you can make it yourself in the toolset and send them the erf. DM swaps it for your regular gear and presto! All done.

Welcome to ALFA. :)
Also many servers have tailor shops where you can edit your stuff while you're wearing it (and see it) before you decide on how you want it. Cost is applied after you finalize. :-)

Naw, a DM won't be able to jump me out of there. I need to appear in an area first because I can be jumped...but I crash before that :P

I'll give it another try tonight, but I've tried searching the forums and I can't find an answer to what the policy is on creating a new character without the other being dead? I'd be fine with just starting a new character on another server and forgetting about that 'suck' PC.

What about crafting? Am I able customize my clothing? I tried last night but it told me that crafting traps is not an option but nothing about crafting armour.
Crafting is currently not supported. It can be done but only with a DM.
Oh, also, the IC forums, arw there any odd rules I need to know about? In Avlis, I was told that anything that gets posted on there is automatically IC knowledge. Needless to say, I didn't stay there after I heard that.
Check this thread here.
Just wondering, about that IC posting thing. Whats so bad about the information being known IC'ly? If you would go post something up on in a Tavern...would you have the barkeeper tell people to bugger off and not look at that specific post? If you don't want it to be known IC, don't put it in IC taverns.

There's been a few resets since your problem, you would probably, briefly, end up in (0000) Start Area. Anyhow, coordinating a "grab and port" with DMs in IRC isn't impossible. Then again, retiring a PC who has virtually no history is fine too...

I enjoy writing stories (that doesn't mean that I'm really good at it :P) but to then not post them would be a waste (in my opinion). I don't care what people know OOCly about my character and in the year and a half of NWN RP PWs, I've never had a player metagame something that has been picked up in a journal/thread they wouldn't know. An IC forum is not just a tavern either; it can be a place where a character's journal goes, a conversation between two characters or a character's background. Each of those things is not something that most characters would pick ever really find out IC, but it gives the player an OOC feeling that the character is really well developed and fleshed out even if their character never finds that out.

Also, my experience is that playing an evil character can lead to unhappiness with other players. By posting some of your RP ideas on the forums, it allows people to "somewhat" know what is coming. For example, I played a cleric of Talos for quite a while who was setting herself up for The Fury, I posted on the forums about who she disliked and let everyone know it was coming but no one knew when or where. When the time came, no one was camping out at the location waiting, but they all ran off toward a distraction that my character created. In the end, they came back and killed my character and I stopped playing her for a quite a long time to give the “good guys” a sense of victory.

You might say that could have been done without posting it on the forums and yes, it could have, but what would it look like to someone who knows nothing about Talos? It would look like I was griefing and killing off NPC/PCs for no reason however, they did know why which made the whole plot line much more interesting and it gave me a felling of accomplishment for both my character (dieing during the Fury) and the good guys (riding the place of evil).

That’s my tirade on OOC posting of IC events

I’ve decided to give ALFA another try with a new character from Baldurs Gate who finds herself in Waterdeep for the first time, which fits fairly well, since I’m already lost. :P

I have a question, is the Library only for posting stories that are to be turned into IG books?

BIG welcome, Xerah. Hope your OldSkull problems don't prevent you from giving Shadowdale a fair shake; it's a great server. Hope to RP with you soon.
