Well, decided to take a few moments to look for sites with free music, at least in regards to our intended use here in ALFA:

Free to use as long as we're not attempting to make a profit (this site has a great collection, nicely organized) -
http://freeplaymusic.com/

Free downloads of royalty free MP3s -
http://www.pdinfo.com/download.htm

http://www.royaltyfreemusic.com/free-mu ... urces.html

http://incompetech.com/m/c/royalty-free/

Orchestral -
http://www.musopen.com/view.php

Time to start rummaging through these collections to find pieces for your mods.

What about using background music or music taken from flash movies that are publicly accessible on the web? It's simple enough to grab these files and/or record them, but is there any copyright concern over this sort of "free" content as well? No RIAA involvement either.

Send anything you want to grandfromage@gmail.com. Since music is an optional download I'm not paying any attention to size, so don't worry about sending too much. If there's anything you MUST HAVE please indicate such. And please, nothing out of character for the setting--no urbanmix kind of crap will be getting in.

Also the limit on my email is 10 MB, so if you send more than that break it up. And put "ALFA music" in the subject line so I can filter it properly.

I'm not paying any particular attention to copyright. We're not distributing widely, we're not going for profit, so short of some ass reporting us we'll be fine. Since no one in the NWN community has ever had any trouble and there's been tons of copyrighted music going around, I don't think we should worry about it. They're interested in big distributors, not some D&D nerds. Also, they care about stuff that sells. I can guarantee nothing that's ever been on the top 40 is going to be in the music pack.

Quite a bit of the current music is freely available anyway.

The old rule is, if you don't know the source, don't use the material. Those flash movies may have infringed upon copyrights (or they may have obtained permission). Assuming they did not is no excuse.

As to music from other games, you need to verify they provide permissions. In almost all cases, they do not. Then again, i truly doubt game publishers would lift a finger, or even make the effort to check.

IWD and PS:T are already all in, as well as Arcanum. I only have bits and pieces of the BG music, send it and I'll include it for sure.

Here's a 93MB BG music file in BMU format. Will that work?

Not all of these are necessary, but some fiendish/angelic tracks would be nice. :)

I've been contacted by a NWN community member with an interest in music production. He'd like to know if we wanted any soundtracking for our haks. This link is to a recent (contemporary) piece of his; more can be found in the profile.

Also, there is a good selection from the original Everquest at http://www.fileplanet.com/162837/downlo ... eluxe-Pack
They are all midis, but they really have a good range of music that is expressive of a bunch of different fantasy situations.

Just thought I'd give this thread a bump and see where we are on implimenting custom music files into ALFA NWN2?

To be honest, I never understood why we didn't just copy over the existing ALFA NWN .bmu music files since NWN2 uses the same format. There were some really great songs in that collection.
