Donation to the Temple of Kelemvor in Macsheehan

Post by ChrisBarrow »

*scratches the two day old stubble on his chin, thinking hard upon the various matters he is trying to summarize into a single document.* Hells, I wish I had payed more attention to my stylistics lessons when I had the chance. *takes the feathered quill in hand, slices the tip into a new point with his dagger, and dips the new tip into the ink bottle before him.... pauses to listen to the cadenced footfalls of Sir Drake's drilling troopers waft in through the open barracks window, before reluctantly putting quill to parchment, and begins to laboriously write*
"For the eyes of Friar Jack Black.
Greetings, Brother Black. I herewith deliver to your hands an offer of support and a request for help from Sir Drake Veneshuel, Master Fumir the Amnian, and Tha'is the bard.
Sir Drake has asked me to inquire as to the feasibility of preventing the revivification of several dead Drow whose corpses lie in the dungeon of his keep southeast of Kingsbay. He is interested in any spell or rite which might keep these corpses dead, against any attempt to bring them back to life.
As an inducement to the Temple, colleagues of Sir Drake, the aforementioned Master Fumir and Lady Tha'is have offered to grant a substantial cash donation, as well as provide a fund raising dance performance, all for the good of your temple, should it be your wish to assist Sir Drake in his cause.
I should like to vouch for Sir Drake and his colleagues. Their goals in this effort are lawful and have the approval of leadership figures at governing levels of our kingdom.
Thanking you in advance for any cooperation you may choose to offer Sir Drake in his cause, I remain your humble servant and acolyte:
Thanatos Darkdoor.

*pulls the pen nib away from the parchment, pausing to read the missive by the guttering light of a candle, the writer shakes his head ruefully* .... Damnnation and Hells infernal! ... I am no scribe! .... what WAS I thinking of when I offered to convey his Lordship's request to the Temple! *shakes head, smiling wryly at his poor effort, but nonetheless folds the missive into an envelope, sealing it with his signet ring pressed into hot wax, and pocketing the letter before throwing on his cloak and striding through the barracks door to the troopers outside.* Sergeant, I am off to Macsheehan, to deliver his Lordship's wishes to the priests there... If I dont return by the morrow, send someone to find my corpse, and get this letter off of me, then deliver it to Brother Jack Black at the Temple of Kelemvor there.... Got all that?.... and for judgement's sake, let my folks at Kingsbay know what became of their son!
*sets off, laughing to himself, at the thought that he feared more being judged a near illiterate by the priests, than he feared perishing at the claws of zombies*

" Dear Mr. Darkdoor,

We thank you for your contribution to our church. Unfortunately, there are a few suggestions I can offer.

Because you are dealing with already dead corpses, you have little options since their life force, their souls have already fled.

The best thing you can do is to burn the bodies entirely to ash, pulverize the bones, and scatter the ashes to the sea. Any remaining, even a hair or a drop of blood on the belongings of these Drow could be used to revive them in the right hands.

If you were to interrupt the process of the rebinding of the soul to the body, you could block this via a spell called Lesser Planar Binding or Planar Binding. For your basic education there are also spells such as Soul Bind and Trap Soul that can be used on a fresh corpse, but really that violates the basic tenets of our faith much like using their corpse to create undead and bind their souls in undeath.

Please understand, Mr. Darkdoor, the dead must be allowed to rest, even of they were evil in their mortal lives, that which lies beyond death will deal with them accordingly.

If you find you cannot properly dispose of these bodies, please bring them to Father Blacke and I, and we shall take care of the remains properly.

Sincerely,

Father Benjamin Lyonsbane"
