What's The Craic?

Post by I-KP »

I rated ALFA as being a 2.5 in the recent Mood Gauge thingy, my lowest rating yet so I'm going to do my part in trying to reverse the tide. At the moment I'm receiving mixed messages about MS's status from various quarters so I'd like to understand what's really going on.

Currently I still call MS home but recently I was advised to 'go and see the world' because MS was due for some sort of reset or disconnect from the vault in order to prep for going public. Is this true? What will be the practical impact for players like me?

Euro game time on MS had a decent run over the last six months or so, then it all dried up like an overworked cheap whore for reasons uncertain. (I'm putting most of the blame, perhaps erroneously, on fly-by-night / overambitious DMage.) Who is around to play and run games on MS on a Euro-centric timeslot?

Currently I’m on TSM -- seeing the world, remember -- which is nice from a meeting other players standpoint but zero apparent DM coverage for a Euro timeslot means that I have no intention of staying; it’s just a wee sojourn.

I’d like to turn that 2.5 back into a 4.

To my knowledge:

MS will go live for a month at least. 15 dec till 15 jan.
during that time it will be open for the public and open to ALFA players to make teporary toons,
as it will not be connected to our vault. (So you wont be able to take Tam there)

I am not sure what happens to ppl who want to call MS home, as im not certain what admins would make of that live server. I guess much of it depends on how that month would go.
Maybe if it goes well they'll reconnect MS to our regular vault and keep it open? (as in with no passward)

That is as much as I understood. Any admin who feels like conferming, correcting, elaborating better....
Please do.

Cheers for the info.

I’ll make a prediction: Without external advertising and a nigh-on-ever-present ALFAn contingent on the OA MS server to hook the pubes, not much will come of this. In order for an OA server to have the desired effect new players would ideally be logging into an already thriving and active gaming world, and to be brutally honest MS was never that kind of server. That having been said, it’s a noble enterprise and it is probably the only thing that ALFA can do to make the game a little more accessible to new blood (short of going live Vault, globally OA for a while). I have a hat and suitable seasoning set aside in readiness.

It is the multi-tool of the written world; almost as versatile as bollocks.

I'm not for sure who's into advertising for alfa. A post to whoever runs NWN Vault, or a thread topic on the Bioware boards or any forum site that still has an active NWN2 community could help. I'm all up for RP'n with Walin Onya, Ben Dover, and Harry Richards!!!

This should be being advertised now. To all venues where people are known to have purchased nwn2.

please read the FAQ in ALFA General. The period is only one month. bonus brownie points to those that participate by DMing or playing. This is being advertised by our pubilicity people.

PS - MS was once the most populated server in ALFA, so posts that have the word "never" in them are incorrect. We've had good numbers when plots were run by various DMs. You may recall Trid's pirate group, etc.

PSS - after the month w/o password it goes back the way it was, hopefully with new ALFA members.

Once being the operative word.

Where is the OA event being promoted? Might take a look and nudge a few bodies in those general directions.

Certainly will. Any URLs to nudge them towards? Lobbing people at a forum such as this does little to advertise what goes on, so a crafted advert might be better.

there's no URL per se as our main page does not have an announcement on it.

Better to tell them to look for ALFA Moonshaes without a password on gamespy starting December 15, and perhaps direct them to our applications page if they like what they see.

I've ducked down with my activity of late.
The fate of Amn remains in limbo, the most recent developments have stalled to the loss and confusion with encounter-things since Riotnrrd left. It seems to me pressing ahead with the server is not the smartest thign to do atm, as the clientele doesn't seem to be there.

Regardless, I'd back up this:
Euro game time on MS had a decent run over the last six months or so, then it all dried up like an overworked cheap whore for reasons uncertain. (I'm putting most of the blame, perhaps erroneously, on fly-by-night / overambitious DMage.) Who is around to play and run games on MS on a Euro-centric timeslot?
I’d like to turn that 2.5 back into a 4.
With the obvious conclusion that it'd really be nice to get a Euro-game going again. I think it's time to face the numbers and do what the down underites have done: We need to create a player group, and to an extension a campaign, that is about us Euros who still want to play ALFA getting together and playing. Forge the in-game realities to face that, (temp-)retiring and rolling PCs as maybe needed. I don't care which setting (=server) we play at, but we need to actively agree to play cohesively with each other.

Yeah, that is the way to go, if you can put together a nice group of players, and come up with regular times, the chances of getting a DM to attach him/herself to it is much higher. Or sometimes a player may step up to the DM plate out of the group.

Thats what happened with the oceania group.

There are certainly enough Euros around to make a good group.

And dont be afraid of a re-roll!

Give up that death grip!

Let them go towards the light! (of temp retirement)

Level gaps can make things difficult on everyone involved.
