DM Q & A

Post by Cast_No_Shadow »

I noticed a thread like this on TSM. I thought it was a good idea so here we are! You lovely players now have one for the Moonshaes. Ostensibly, I intend this to be mainly for questions regarding my Monday Night sessions.

Be it technical questions, clarification on wtf just happened, theoretical questions around the plot or advice on what to do.

But I'm happy for it also to be used as a larger "Ask the HDM" thread and if other DM's are happy to join in, "Ask the DM's of MS anything about MS or Dnd or whatever" thread.

Either way, everything in here is OOC so Ask away!

In-game Distances Between Notable Locations

In a recent game Tam suggested taking a route that didn't involve passing through a dangerous area; the Cambro route to the Winterglen instead of through the Vale. She was then slapped down for that being a bloody silly idea as the alternate route represented two days trek through mountain passes when in actual fact you have to pass through Cambro to get to the Winterglen anyway, as per the map.

AT link inaccuracies aside, without memorising the server map there's no in-game way to tell how far one place is from another. Is there a way that the in-game distance to a new location can be displayed, maybe on the AT tooltip? Example: on the AT from Dynatt to Pontswain the tooltip could read 'Pontswain (2 days)'. Better still, signposts that indicate the distance in Leagues (a unit of distance roughly equal to how far a person can walk in an hour) between locations.

You raise a good point. Distance wise the two routes are pretty similar. Travel time, I was suggesting its a lot easier to walk through the rolling meadows of the Vale than hike through huge mountains (that iirc are not meant to have any nice easy trails to get you across).

But the point about distances, yeah we can do better. Sign posts at the edge of town, or along major travel routes are a good idea and I do like the better tagging of AT's so "Blah Town to Yeah Yeah Woods - 5 Days travel" is a really good idea. I'll certainly look to start implementing it.
