*cheers* I'll be there to help you on the way.
1. Don't sweat the custom building stuff till you get used to Dming. Building is fun but it will distract you from the players (unless you ARE a builder DM of course)
2. Hop around the server, get to know it well.
3. Download the current mod and get to know it from the inside out too. Use Area contents to learn all the spawn points.
4. Go into the DM Only area and spawn some stuff. Crazy stuff! Make it fight each other. Notice the lag. See what your avatar can do in and out of a character. Practice making visual effects.
5. Always check it something (item/armor) is legal. What is legal on some servers could be insanely overpowered for Alfa. And we still have some items that are that. You can tell because they will go into your inventor Unidentified. good sign to check it then.
