Intra-Server Travel Distances

Just to give you an idea for RP purposes:

Corwell <--> Skaug: about 400 miles (almost the same as going to BG from Callidyrr)

Corwell <--> Kingsbay: 2 days ride

Kingsbay <--> Callidyrr (by any one of boat or boat plus road plus boat)

Corwell <--> Ironkeep:

Ironkeep <--> Caftenor:

Ironkeep <--> Graystaad:

Graystaad <--> Hammerstaad:

you can of course compress time...I don't expect anyone to sit around RPing travel for ages.

I thought in one of the stickies there was some Moonshaes lore and maps... plenty of free maps to be found online though.

Check this one... it doesn't list Skaug right on point, but I guess it's "somewhere in the Nelanther isles", I have an old FR atlas in the basement but I'm not digging it out!

I guess to that point of Corwell-Skaug, you'd be looking at a sailing ship of some sort (Caravel, Coster, whatever) leaving west from Caer Corwell's harbour, sticking close to shore curling around the SW tip of Gwynneth, and probably sticking within resupply distance of shore until Snowdown, then blue water sailing due south into Nelanther. Possibly meeting ten pirate vessels along the way.

I think Castano's 400 mile estimate was as the crow flies, not necessarily taking into account a ship having to round Gwynneth's tip. Sailing vessel can MAX out at 48 miles per day, assuming gorgeous weather and zero encounters, I bet you'd be looking at a ten day sail give or take, eating miserable food and living in dreadful close quarters. The final three or four days people would probably be terrifying absent a complement of marines or notably capable adventurers (especially ranged battle wizard types, or guys who were clear to the crew that yes, they had wands that would burn a ship to the waterline) going into the scuzzy pirate waters, eh?

EDIT: http://www.d20srd.org/srd/movement.htm time and movement are always good for some yuks, like the 24 miles / day walk for people at move 30, or faster for mounted people or those with a squire and coconuts due to lack of mounted / horsie systems.

If you want to get the ruler out and measure actual distances be my guest :) I typically use straight line distances unless they are crazy wrong, then add a couple days to the time, since it is simpler. But yes a 400 + sea voyage would be a ten-day or two at least...of course many of the walks we complete on server in one "game day" would actually take much longer....so RP it (briefly - you don't need to go hog wild with campsites, fires, tents and marshmallows) and you are fine.

Going to BG is worse, because it involves a trip to the main island, probably part over land, ship transfers what not...

I'll be posting more crow flies distances so people get a rough idea of what is involved.

so RP it accordingly...I'm not saying don't travel...do it as often as you like IC, just RP out the time a bit.

Oh and bring a cleric who can create rations...actually many big FR ships would have one aboard...that way you will avoid Broken's miserable cuisine :P
