Where exactly do I find one....?
The Fochlucan apparently doesnt carry any, and the search for it seems difficult for a city dedicated to the Arts.
Thanks

An annoyed passer-by points you to "that bird elf", who apparently has a shop in an alley "somewhere near that scroll witch" in the city.

*sighs* yes thank you sir, once I've hocked everything I own I'll be more than happy to be told I haven't the 411 gold to buy a lute. drum, or harp.

Those must be
really nice lutes. Isn't that more than a typical commoner makes in a year?

A typical commoner (farm peasant type) makes 1 gold a week.
A year is 52 gold. YEEHAW!
So a commoner might save up for 8 years for that flute, then pass it down to his next of kin before he dies of the common cold.

There are non-masterwork/+perform musical instruments around. Try the Silverymoon market, if you can't find one there, I think one of the merchants in High Hold stock them. Maybe Rivermoot, but I don't think so. It's been a while since I played my bard...

Only the most durable of instruments can survive the inevitable mistreatment of a dwarven bard?
Perhaps the creation of the bagpipe will lead someone to address the vendor issue.

Or make their own...

Which still costs 137 gold and more than 4 ranks in Craft to do. Still a good length of work time and, considering they need most of that weekly gold to support themselves.
Dungeons and Dragons is silly.

This isn't making a table, here. Instruments can be extremely precise objects. I've known quiet a few people in my life that could make you a chair, or a table, or a chest of drawers even. Crafting musical instruments, however, I would consider a specialty niche of the above, as I've only known one person in my life who makes instruments. You aren't shopping at wallmart...and every commoner in the land does not own a dulcimer, harpsichord ect. I imagine things like a reed flute, hollow log, ect could be tooled as makeshift instruments...otherwise, they are extremely precise items and priced according to that. Just my take though.

Pre-industrial people have fewer possessions, period... and lutes are indeed things passed down over time. (F)lutes, maybe or maybe not...

I'm waiting for Chris to start giving Brier voice lessons out of sheer self-defense, actually.

I guess I'll be singing, whistling and using any convenient surfaces as percussion instruments....

I am going to fix the merchant, I promise. Today even. No reason AT ALL why the lad should not be stocking mundane instruments over normal ones.
As per getting once presently, look for me arouns 4:00 PST this afternoon.
