Desecrating the Dead: Is it REALLY worth a trip to jail?

So you the intrepid player, whether Rogue, Pailidan, Bard, or Ranger, walks into a temple, a holy place, guarded by the elite clerics and knights of the priesthood.
There on the floor is a corpse, laid to rest by a dutiful soul who saw fit to properly inter them in a sacred place.
So in front of the priest, literally UNDER HIS EYES, you decided to not only reach into the dead's pockets and steal their worldly wealth BUT you also remove their clothes and underclothes as well. ALL UNDER THE EYES OF THE PRIEST. Eyeing their attractive backpack you load up all their goods when suddenly a armored hand darts out and grabs yours, and you are face with the glittering stare of a level 15 Battlepriest.
"Going Somewhere, FRIEND?"
First:
1. Looting PCs is fine IN THE RIGHT SITUATION.
Ask yourself:
a) What is in-character/ IC?
b) How would MY deity feel if they saw me rifiling a corpse for the meager 2 gold I can make selling their beef jerky and leopard skin bikini?
c) If the priest/cleric is watching, will I be able to to Bluff/Slieight of Hand/Intimidate my way out of this? Do I have an invisibily spell on? Am I ready to be flogged for insubordination?
2.Doing it like the above merely shows that you have no respect for the RP enviroment.
3.It also tells me that you seem to think there is no consequences of these actions and in the past people have'nt pressed the issue. Sadly priests and clerics live dull lives and they rather HATE It when they see you have been fondling rotting corpses on their altars. And some Deities as well hate it when their precious happy followers suddenly flip flop into greedy little grave robbers.
4. Get them BEFORE they get in the temple. Though you can't be THAT sad your friend is dead if you are stuffing you hands into their pockets and stripping off their armor after their death. Really. Of course if as they died they said, "you can have all my things random person I just met!" Go for it. If you are family! Go for it. If you can pretend feasibly you ARE famlily! Do it.
