Darling you got to let me know.
Should i stay or should I go?
If you say that you are mine,
I'll be here to the end of time.
So you got to let me know,
should I stay or should I go?

Now, more to the point:
It seems that life is something that's just a bit too much for a certain Helmite to handle at this time, and I've been urged to get over it. With that in mind, I'm looking for a way to get back into the swing of things with a fresh concept. I want to thank all those who've been supporting me, morally, since the April Folly and hope to see you all again ingame, soon.

As far as ideas, I'm drawing pretty much a blank, right now, other than a tendancy to try to work up something of a helpful/scoutlike nature that might be amenable to association with HI (if not an actual Helmite), but I'm also rather leary of being to Helmocentric due to the danger of appearing to be simply trying to pick up where Lem left off. I don't wish to abandon the faction altogether, but I don't want to risk being tagged a Meta/PGer by either my fellow players or the DMs. I know others have lost affiliated toons and come back with new toons in tune with the faction and have been able to keep the two identities seperate, and I believe I'll be able to do the same. I just need some time to flesh out the idea (that has yet to coalesce) and come up with a plausible background before I actually feel up to bringing said toon into game. I am still unsure of where I should actually drop him/her in, but I'm leanding towards TSM. Not to belittle the DM team on BG, I simply don't like the righteous to slimebag ratio down there (PC-wise, not DM-wise. Ah mebbe dumb, but ah ain't stoopid!). Besides, there ain't no McD's in BG, and I hear one's opening up in SM, across from the Lady's College. I can't wait to get my first Bacon Double Cheeseburger in years, and an extra large bag of fried goblin ears on the side.

"Helmish" characters are limited in their options, it's true. The church of Helm has no Faerûn-wide allies, no goals other than to "guard and protect" and no special link to a nation or race. That being said, there certainly are possibilities.
  • A spymaster, focusing on counter-espionage.
  • A paladin. Or a blackguard - Helm caters to both! :pals:
  • A battlefield medic, as the temple has been using them to gain influence among warriors (it's canon!)
  • John Rabmo, the maladjusted Maztica-veteran. :rambo:
  • A wannabe builder of Golems and Helmed Horrors.
  • A PR consultant, seeking to improve the reputation of the church after the Time of Troubles.
  • Judge Dread.
I don't wish to abandon the faction altogether, but I don't want to risk being tagged a Meta/PGer by either my fellow players or the DMs.
You should worry about yourself too. As you said, it can be really hard to keep track of what your new guy doesn't know but the old one did. Or it always was for me, even with many other PCs in between. Keep notes!
Not to belittle the DM team on BG, I simply don't like the righteous to slimebag ratio down there (PC-wise, not DM-wise. Ah mebbe dumb, but ah ain't stoopid!).
It's a valid reason for a lawful crusading-type character to go there and "clean up the town" though. ;)

jmecha deployed a Red Knight aspirant who I got quite excited about...unfortunately he was short-lived due to mischance :( . Severen and HI are fairly closely aligned thus far IG.

If you want to stay with fighter, that's a good choice (although as hollyfant said some skills would be helpful as well, both for Severen and HI).

I don't see a problem with going Helmite again if you want to, though...HI needs more PC's. If you change class away from fighter you'll be forced to depart from Lem's legacy whether you want to or not.

Changing sex is a good way to prevent bleed-over also. I hesitated to a female for many. many years...but when I finally gave it a go I was surprised to find out how much fun it actually is. You could roll up a female clone of Lem and the change in sex would force the PC to be totally different than Lem.

It doesn't matter too much what god you begin with, btw...Rugo was on track to evolve from a villainous Maskarran to a Lathanderite closely aligned with HI due nearly entirely to the excellent RP and IC circumstance presented by Hashan, Lem, and Rath. If he had lived, he might well have become a perennial HI sidekick.

Anyway...I'm really sorry to see Lem go, but I look forward to seeing you back IG soon in whatever incarnation you choose :D

Forget Bane Kid, pull the trigger and come join us, and maybe Lem will come along for the ride ;)

Hey BH. Thannk for the long run with Lemuel. He was Rath's support for many campaigns and was a big part of what has made the House Invincible faction fun for me.

Lemuel Ogdenstorm went down swinging fulfilling a pledge that took over a year RL to play out. I will miss him.

There is so much that will allow affiliation that it is hardly as issue. Play what you want and I'll look for you ingame!! :)

Personally, I like to mix things up a bit with my characters, but if you're most comfortable with human male fighter worshippers of Helm, by all means play another one.

Just make sure he has a different personality and background.

Doesn't Helm have a large part of his dogma dealing with looking after children, or am I getting my wires crossed? That, to me, always seemed a real interesting way of looking at a Helmite.

Zealots can be humorous, and BH, you do humour well.

Yes BH, if you want to play another Helmite warrior, by all means do not let perceptions stop you. However, you should be aware that certain rogueish characters have been known IC to allude to more than a "brothers in arms" relationship between Helmites in the past. *runs and hides*

Progress reports arriving. The farms of Aerolon are burning. The beaches of Canceron are burning. The plains of Leonis are burning. The jungles of Scorpia are burning. The pastures of Tauron are burning. The harbors of Picon are burning. The cities of Caprica are burning. The oceans of Aquaria are burning. The courthouses of Libran are burning. The forests of Virgon are burning. The Colonies of Man lie trampled at our feet. Mists of dreams drip along the nascent echo and love no more. End of line.
