PSA: Server Crashes and You.

Post by Swift »

So we have alot of new players recently, which is fantastic. However, I don't think any of the player manuals or guides around our site cover this particular topic.

NWN2 mods are large. Very very large. TSM is 2 gigs or so (last I heard). This size mod takes a long time to load.

If the server crashes, it will pop back up very quickly on the server browser, but it will not be ready for logins immediately. TSM usually takes around 5 to 10 minutes to reload and become stable. Logging in before that often hurts more than it hinders, sometimes even crashing it again.

If the server crashes, head AFK for 5 to 10 minutes and grab a drink, or stop into IRC chat and talk with everyone else. Once the ping on the server settles back down to low 3 figures (for my case, in australia, that is around 300, much less for americans) the server will be ready for logins.

Your co-operation is appreciated. Enjoy your ALFA!

When the server crashes, it almost is always brought back up under a different password. I don't think you really need to worry about that.

Only made the post because of a recent crash where people successfully piled back onto the server moments after it re-appeared, but long before it was actually ready.
