player housing

Post by ravin »

something the twins have been batting around is renting a house . Daertho would have been making IC inquires at Everdusk to find the tree of them a place. My question is, does player housing exist and is there a thread that has priceing and availability?

Pstorage (correct me if I'm wrong) thusfar, has been related to factions. I've seen storage at Knight in Silver tower and in rauvinwatch.

Other stuff may exist but I can't think of it now, there is an upstairs room in everdusk that has beds and chests at their foot that would be ideal for keyed pstorage if the desire is there to implement.

Otherwise some other small 'tenement' interior could be made up, actually I would suggest making the 3rd floor of the wayward house a rented set of apartment rooms instead of the standard gated inn rooms. We have lots of those inns but the wayward house feels especially suited to renting out apartments to adventurers.

It would also get rid of that pesky gate that bugs me in our inns.

Perhaps a bawdy-house faction?

 Just kidding...rental housing is a unique and perfectly IC thing to pursue, and should really be available, but I'm not certain what would be involved in building, coding, or ram consumption associated with something like that. It seems that renting a key shouldn't be such a big deal, and whoever has the key could access the room and contents could be fun.

Maybe someone with some knowledge of how this might work should put together a proposal and post in Brainstorming so we could get some thoughts on it?

Eh? Or just ask Wynna or Curm. It's not like player housing is a new thing. My last PC had a house in BG.

The proposal was for "rent" housing. My assumption is that the player has in mind a monthly, quarterly, or yearly payment scale as opposed to what we have now which is buy it and own it (which is, of course, exorbitantly expensive) , or rent a room for a cat-nap.

And I believe the current powers that be, including me, don't really like the rental scenario. It leaves some things open upon death, as well as something else a dm will have to keep records on/track of. It's much simpler to do a PC bought house than rental apartment. A lot less hassle there.

I'd simply like to sate, aside from talking about renting/buying argument there,

PCs should have access to pstorage at a reasonable rate, if 'buying' is easier, so be it, but PCs should have some kind of access to a lockable persistent storage chest. That key should also be able to be stolen/looted from the PC and used to rifle their gear by appropriate DMs/NPCs/PCs in my opinion, but that alst aprt is flavour and not crucial.

There's a lot of should haves in there, when I've done without storage my entire career in NWN2. I suppose a "bank" can be made, where storage is issued at a price, locked gate requiring a key ect. If there's someone willing to work on a project such as that. Otherwise, I believe most temples have p-storage for the faithful. Claims of SHould haves are a bit much, imo...there'd be a lot of cleaning out of lockers for all these level 1's who die and should have p-storage.

And tehre is our answer.

My biggest problem with rental properties was those PCs who paid for like a RL year rent and then disappeared, leaving all the rental rooms taken and none left for those of us who actually played.

Fair enough, I just seem to remember it was something of a serious requirement forservers back when we were approving nwn2 servers that there should be some kind of plan for readily accessable pstorage.

I do not think it is a crucial issue at all, and have no knowledge of the overhead involved, so I will refrain from further comment I suppose, but pstorage is a nice addition form my mind, for cost or not, I'd rather see it readily available

I think a banking system would probably be the best way to solve that...the lockbox/specific key for storage for a one time fee would solve a few concerns as to storage.

That would be awesome.

Edit: Some kind of pStorage that doesn't cost the world would be fantastic i think. In NWN1 it didn't really matter since there was 0 movement speed penalty until you went over your weight limit bit with NWN2 slowing you to a walk for being at 70(ish?)% of your limit, it makes carrying around alot of non essentials harder, especially for low STR characters.

perhaps a good way for those who spent gold to buy housing to recoup some of it by renting out space... this way it becomes from dm pestering event to rp event... come to think of it.... :chin: *rushes off to start making room for rent signs*

buying a house would be just as easy as renting one. but i'm not sure ifthe Bank of TSM does credit checks ;) . Curm actually gave me some figures for housing.

Inside SM house/apartment 1-3 rooms 1000-3000 g
farmhouse/manor 4-6 rooms 4000-6000g

based on this i think a small 2 bedroom home with a common room and kitchen should be suitable for a family of happy litle elves. now i just need help building it.
