New player Group

Look. I know this sounds a bit hokey but whatever. I'm interested in creating a group of 1st level pc's with a common storyline backdrop, that would agree to meet EST evenings. Character generation would commence via irc in a private chat channel. (Just like in the old days when everyone gathered together to roll up pc's when computer's didn't rule the world. I'd even be open to random rolls for characer generation within the scope of the ability points alloted) OOC'ily the group would look to:

Establish group identity,
Establish reasons for thier affiliations,
Establish initial common character history,(Don't we have enough lone wanderers and vagabonds.)
Establish a code of ethics that rules character interaction ig within the group.
Agree to work as a group through three levels of role play and establish after that by ig vote whether the group will continue to function as an entity in Alfa.
Agree in spirit that no solo'ing will occur. (Must have a dm event, or must have a group member along with to accomplish statics, journey with other pc's)

Reasons for suggesting this--
--1st level pc's die and die often.
--It's highly unlikely that any lone traveller could survive travelling the lands of Faerun so how the hell did you get to Silverymoon in the first place if you didn't have companions you could count on to get you there.
--1st level pc's shouldn't be reliant on the good graces of upper level pc's to see them through their initial levels. (I'm not discounting uber pc involvement, but your rp and progression shouldn't be dependent on finding the 12th level paladin 10th level dwarf 11th level mage and hiding behind thier coat tails just so you can survive.)
--There was a time when rp'ing with characters greater than four levels your own was greatly frowned upon.
--Further, I would question any uber level pc that say's let's go hunting trolls.
--Lastly I know all this has been said before in one fashion or another. In large part efforts like this fail to get off the ground because (""I'm special and don't need a group to play with.."" """I'll agree to meet and never show up""" """No dm involvement""" """Player disagreement with the direction or goals of the group""""PVP""" """Other"""")
What typically occurs through attrition is one lone character winds up holding a torch as all the other pc's die off or go elsewhere.

If you're creating a character and are interested or if you are bored with an old pc and would like a fresh new start, respond to this want ad/personal ad/(insert adjective here) ad.

Please give GSID and best available times.
Please give 1 idea for a group concept.

(My thought is the best group idea voted on by the members would be led by the member who submitted the idea. In the event of a tie... Roll the dice d20. Low die wins!! //low levels -- low die wins...HA!)

Ideal size for this is 5 members so this will not go forward until 5 responses have been submitted and confirmed.

I'll set November 10th as the deadline for signing up. If there is no interest by then, I'll presume this is going nowhere.

IRC meeting would occur ASAP afterward at earliest possible convenience--
Agenda--
--Vote on best group idea--Party Leader determined by whom submitted idea.
--(Leader's role should be determined by overall group concept.)
--Determine character classes that compliment each other and fill roles.
--Determine where best to make stage entrance(I.E. Server, location on server)
--Establish regular playing time.
--Establish overall party alignment.

OOCily-- I'll be happy to act as Secretary and handle OOC communication if this gets off the ground.

Hey I might be able to do something like this. I can't do the marathon sessions until after the semester ends but I could make some time for shorter events.

I've been involved with a few groups of a similar nature and have enjoyed the interaction and player development that went along with it.
(Hand of Curna with Nalo Jade and some group fun on TLR)

I'll post my particulars shortly.

I think that any players based activity should be encouraged.

I think i've been enough time around now to learn that the number of players online is directly connected to the presence of DMs online(or the events they are running).

If i come to the homepage and see 10 players on one of the servers, granted that a DM is running an event.

I think it's a bit shame, players should gather up to RP and do stuff without connection to DM presence online.

Personally, i would like to see more crafters around, maybe some economic system, and in game fractions that would add some flavor to characters, clans and affiliates.

Anything that helps players group up is good IMO. It can be discouraging to log on and see the PC's scattered about the areas soloing...it makes it difficult to get anything going DM-wise. One feels that picking out one to DM is neglecting the others :?

This is what I alwas wanted to do in Alfa. If we can find a time that works for me I might be interested in making a new PC for this.

To add more of a draw card, I have quite a bit of free time for the next three or more months (starting next week), and enjoy DMing low levels. So if you guys manage to get something together, I'm open to setting aside one slot a week to work with the group (on condition that it's not exclusive, and anyone can play along aside of them).

That's my current dislike with TSM. I log on so many times to see people spread out so thin across the server.

GSID: darren_hfx

Time Zone: AST (GMT -4)

Availability: probably weekend evenings although I can be flexible, I'd rather a few shorter sessions than one long one if possible

Idea for Group Concept: remember it's just a concept... we've run afoul of a local illegal operation and now must band together for safety or until the debt is paid. A second idea is that we would all be answering an ad calling for adventurers to deal with some sort of something. I'm pretty much open to any concept and am willing to play whatever race/class/etc is needed to help round out the party.

It would be great to RP with you Twin Axes. :)

Alrighty then.

GSID: Twin Axes
Time Zone: EST (GMT-5)

Sunday nights before 11 pm would work best for me. Here's one idea: a group of Indiana Jones-type explorers led by a charismatic enthusiast. l have a possible such PC concept for a gold dwarf fighter/bard archaeologist-adventurer.

Would indeed be great to RP with you guys again!

EDIT: I am also available M-T-W after 10.30 pm.

Just a thought.... The ideas expressed so far are great. Spend a few moments to see if we can tie this in somehow to canon.(General ideas on this forum are fine and just what were looking for.) Bring your ideas to the irc chat. Secondly.... based off of our overall concept I am willing to create items specific to our group with HDM approval. Any help, ideas or work in this regard by group members is appreciated as well. For those who have the toolset set up. Erf's can be exchanged or we can take screenshots of armour, uniforms/whatnot and vote on them for inclusion in our initial group concept.

--Based on what comes out of irc chat meeting, I will work on items identified with this pc player group.

As a further note regarding:

-- Exclusivity --
The group will have exclusive aspects to it from communication, common background so on and so forth, but as far as rp'ing and rights to roleplaying, dm time. These are things which in my mind are quite outside the purveiw of any in game character faction/ group. Nothing ruder in my mind than having a pc approach and then OOC'ily saying you can't be here(Of course you can be there. Your there aren't you). Just realize that pc's will be interacting in game based on in game circumstances. This group is in no way intended to change the fabric of the game as layed out in the players guide. However, this will for all intents and purposes be an organized faction or player group. How you interact with them will determine thier actions in game and vice versa as it has always been. Please understand that in a full CvC enviroment that circumstances may dictate an enviroment which may not always be inclusive from a party standpoint but... from a standpoint of playing alongside however it should have no impact whatsoever.

Lastly... Were looking for at least two more members. Call your friends, send pm's to players we haven't seen in a while.. Shout at new players who have run through a few pc's already and are getting acclamated to ALFA. DM referal of new players would be greatly appreciated.

Hey! I think I might have found the perfect solution for you.

Alekzander and myself just came back after a long stretch from Alfa on NWN1 and are looking for a group to play with. We are both EST and can play any scheduled date during the week, sometimes weekend (I ahve 3 kids).

My GSID is e.loyer, his I have no idea but I'll tell him to post later on once he's off work.

As far as concept ideas, there is a lot we can start with, and add details once approved by all.

- Last survivor of a mercenary band on the hunt for a traitor (one of their old ally).

- Members of a Kelemvor cult, focused on finding and cleansing by flames the evil and necromancers of Faerun. Kinda like a witchhunter from WH. One or two players could be Kelemvor cultist (hunters), while some are specialist in their field. My current pc on BG is a professional torturer...

The Idea I think is not to restrict ourselves with one main focus.. Meaning, it sure would be fun to play a newly organised thieves guild trying to gain a stronghold in the city... but after a while.. mheh.. adventurers/Mercenary works best, cause then we can diverse our character persona, and take pretty much any missions or quests we want.
