Followmode Beelines

Post by Veilan »

I understand the game is awkward and clumsy to maneuver in, but I do find everyone breathing down the neck of the guy in front quite unimmersive. Course, there are few better ways to navigate small paths in the game. Meh.

Why you gotta hate on the mass-AFK?!

It's all about multi-tasking these days :P

Autofollow isn't only for the AFK'ers, also makes emoting or talking workable whilst travelling (as opposed to standing idle while lines are finished, due to autopathing stalling out). In a group of any size, it's almost necessary for the walking-and-talking mode of play, unless everyone's OK with taking ages to get from point A to B.

One thing I'd recommend, though, is that when you're in a group travelling, better to Autofollow on the PC directly in front of you, rather than always following on the leader. This gives a more natural staggering and less OOC jostling as multiple PCs try to occupy the heels of whomever is in front.

Follow also allows those of us who have to look at keyboard when typing :wall: to be able to RP while walking.

I think the distance between the follower and followee can be modified IG to prevent "walking up someones backside" phenomenon

I hope to one day see a group where everyone follows each other in a circle, because the "leader" refuses to be the only one stuck with the apparently unbearable task of talking and walking at the same time. :P

This would actually be an interesting experiment :)

Heh, won't work, since you have a finite number of players, hence the circle gets tighter and comes to a full stop pretty fast.

I hate when someone puts my PC on follow (I'm looking at you, Burt_Reynolds_Moustache!). I click ahead with my character and start typing, and it works just fine. I know not everyone can do that, but it's annoying to stop and have some character walk right into my PC because they're glued to his ass for some strange reason.

+1 to Magiles.

When I catch someone following my pc I usually stop, wait till they come right behind me, then start circling them with my own pc. Most times those player aren't typing anything anyway...it's just that they'd rather not have to move their own PC. Lazy bums! If you're afk it's one thing, but moving, barely typing anything, and not even asking is another thing in itself.

I think it's excusable when you're walking a very narrow path and the path finding can't handle you clicking in the distance because the path is currently blocked by another PC. Otherwise it can be a bit annoying.

Occasionally, I click on the distance and the marker instantly disappears and I stop. So, I use auto-follow pretty frequently in this instance in order to not fall way behind the rest of the group.

If you don't particularly like someone autofollowing you, its an opportunity to take them over to that brown bear, have them be your meatshield, get the xp for finishing off the bear, and get all their loot too! Be careful who you trust with autofollow while AFK. :hammer:

Uhmmm....heh. Didn't know it was so annoying to use follow  . Maybe my typing and clicking skills will improve in time, but it's doubtfully, even standing still I often look up from my keyboard to find I've been dancing in place and deploying multiple action screens because I forgot to click "enter" before I started to type

Anyway....I rely on autofollow quite a bit to prevent people having to wait on me to fumble out text, so....might as well apologize in advance.

I really think I saw something about varying the proximity when following. I'll see if I can find it IG and post if it works. 8)
