Joining the Argent Legion

Post by LancasterX_2 »

Seth Longblade has more than shown his abilities in completing all the quests for the Marshall (with help in groups, of course)..

He has scouted, raided, and explored.

He has organized some of the missions.

He has experience fighting orcs, buggybears, gobbies, kobolds, undead things, and boars!

Now he would like to join the Argent Legion!!

Is there a recruiter around Rivermoot? I think Seth has enough experience so that he can at least join up as a private :P

I think Seth would make an excellent soldier!

So long as the Argent Legion has a 'don't ask, don't tell' policy ... :P

Rick can further comment on this but I do believe that we are working in the direction of having players able to join the Argent Legion in a manner similar to the Daggerford Militia for those familiar with NWN1 DF server. Stay tuned.

A quest with a combat dummy is on my list. I have the scripts from Daggerford, but I have a hundred other things to do :)

Though, I think something simpler like having the leaders of HH and RM give a letter of recommendation should be enough if PC's have completed the quests.

I will look at the Argent Legion quests and see if I can update the Marhsal convo and Argent Legion Post sergeant scripts for recruitment if you have completed all the RM quests.

There is a militia badge and I can add a store to the armor in Rauvinwatch Keep.

BTW, for DM's, the militia badge is in the toolset under badges if you want to do this manually with the Post Sergeant in Rivermoot. Along with armor (you can probably do a trade for trade for Argent Legion armor, ie regulat chain for Argent Legion chain, regulat shiled for Argent Legion shield)

Each post sergeant has a contigent of Argent Legion, but all militias fall under the Argent Legion, so the Rivermoot Guards are actually part of the Argent Legion (I am updating their unfirms if it has not already been loaded by Indio already).

Rivermoot should have a militia unit commander if it is not the marshall that falls under the umbrella of the Argent Legion.

If Seth or anyone else has completed all the quests and wants to join the milita, I would say just visit the marshall, get a letter of recommendation, and then visit the post sergeant (who doubles as recruiting sergeant for small towns).

I changed this slightly, upon relecting on the canon a little more.

The Marshall himself will recruit anyone who is interested in joining who is of good character and has completed the quests. The quests act as a sort of test of ability.

If he thinks you are capable, he will give you a badge for the Rivermoot Militia which is part of the Argent Legion. With the badge you are a full member of the milita and can transfer anywhere. Conferring additional rank, such as officer status, will be up to the DM's. However, with the badge you will have access to the milita store in the Argent Legion Post Tower and other Argent Legion stores located in the posts or headquarters. I will also create a militia captain (lower rank than the marshall) in the town hall for DM's to use for militia related missions.

Just to note, the Argent Legion supply run quests I am fixing up are open to everyone.

In the future, however, the Post Sergeants may have specific quests for militia members.

As for the Knights in Silver, though they are part of the Argent Legion, they are a special group and you will need to go through a rigorous recruitment venue before being accepted as a knight. I am scripting this, and I am making this level dependent.

Once again, the Knights in Silver patrol quests will be open to everyone.

Hopefully these will be added over the the next while.

Do you have any information on what it takes to resign from the Militia, or how long service lasts?

You can resign any time unless there is a war or 'call up'. A 'call up' being defined as emergency measures such as defense of a town or marshall law.

I should mention that the Knights in Silver are not part of the Argent Legion. The Legion is the army for the Marches as a whole, consisting of 850 troops contributed by various Confederation signatory cities explicitly for that purpose. 200 of those are contributed by the Knights in Silver, 250 Iron Guard, 200 Shieldsar, 100 Army of the Vale, 50 from Citadel Felbarr, and 50 from Mithral Hall. All cities maintain their own armies and militias, such as the KiS or Shieldsar or Army of the Vale. The town militias are not part of the Legion.

If my quests are borked, can I join the militia anyway? In other words, is this going to be scripted or can a DM put me in?

That was the understanding I had too, on which I designed some background parts .

Sorry I stand corrected. The signatory cities such as Silverymoon provide troops for the Argent Legion. The AL is headquartered in Rauvinwatch Keep.

So, the only way to join is to be sponsored by a signatory and be part of the troop committment.

It just so happens that the Marshall of Rivermoot has a committment that he has difficulty meeting owing to the troubles around the village. The village milita, therefore, is part of his committment qnd he has requested reinforcements. The Argent Legion has seen fit to grant him extra troops and to incorporate his meagre militia force into the Legion.

For PC's, this means that the Marshall can recruit new members as part of his committment. This will be the only circumstance currently where PC's can join the Argent Legion without joining a city military, such as the Knights in Silver.

With the Argent Legion badge, PC's are free to transfer to different areas as long as they leave a note with the marshall. In times of trouble, the Marshall may decide not to grant you leave, but for the most part he will and another Argent Legion trooper will replace the PC.

There will eventually be milita barracks in Rauvinwatch Keep with persistant storage and keys for about 4 - 6 PC's per room (barracks are like that) and keys to the room. That is down the road.

Joining the militia at Rivermoot can be done through the scripted process or by DM. If the PC shows worthiness, committment, and ability, the DM can grant him a badge through the Marshall, otherwise, just finish the quests and most PC's should be able to join.

The Knights in Silver are a separate military body, as noted in the previous notes above, so to join them will be a separate process all together. When you join the KIS you will be a Knight - Errant, so there is going to be a level restriction which I haven't decided on and some rigorous scripted testing, which I am working on. Knight - Errants may be assigned to the Argent Legion as part of the SM committment, but most likely they will be working directly for the Knight Commander of the KIS.

Is this going to be automatic IE you finish the last static and your automatically given the badge and made a member of the militia?

What about people who just want to help out but have no interest in being forceably pushed into the militia (and possibly/likely forced to go where ordered when war inevitably breaks out)?

Leave it at having the marshall give a letter of recommendation if players ask for it, but please, please, please don't make it automatic membership just because you finished them.
