From past experience with a former PC who shall remain nameless I can tell you that murdering and robbing a wandering merchant who is dumb enough to walk the roads alone at night will yield no ill gotten gains -- even after you have chatted with him and perused his inventory.danielmn wrote:ahh, misread your original post. Wandering merchants aren't included in that.
So...we're going to have lone merchants carrying around valuable and interesting goods?

Rather immersion breaking but necessary I suppose.
Immersion breaking would be the idea that a dude (other than a heavy duty PC-like levelled guy) would have tens of thousands of gold pieces worth of goodies on hand... and that all armors etc. are precisely the size to suit your character, or tailored to fit in under the time of a mouse click. NWN shops of all kinds are abstractions, got to sometimes picture there's a runner sent off to a secure offsite storage warehouse, unrepresented NPCs travelling to unrepresented buildings, turnaround times of hours of him and his associates working on filling your order instead of an instantaneous mouse click to get goods retrieved. This would go for road merchants as well, maybe what they're mostly up to is handling letters of trade, which you can cash in with their trusted associate at the gate of (insert nearby settlement) who will in turn be accepting your gold all off camera. Though again, for convenience, everything is treated as instantaneous and without crowds of guards etc.Ithildur wrote:LMAOoldgrayrogue wrote:From past experience with a former PC who shall remain nameless I can tell you that murdering and robbing a wandering merchant who is dumb enough to walk the roads alone at night will yield no ill gotten gains -- even after you have chatted with him and perused his inventory.danielmn wrote:ahh, misread your original post. That is indeed immersion breaking; not even a small amount of coin to abstractly represent robbing a merchant?
Would it take a lot of work to add a few NPC guards accompanying these guys?
How are these wandering peddlers supposed to make enough to afford hiring guards?Ithildur wrote:LMAOoldgrayrogue wrote:From past experience with a former PC who shall remain nameless I can tell you that murdering and robbing a wandering merchant who is dumb enough to walk the roads alone at night will yield no ill gotten gains -- even after you have chatted with him and perused his inventory.danielmn wrote:ahh, misread your original post.
