Tuesday night I have class, which is the only night I cannot do this week. I'm also trying to schedule a DM event with rascally players, but right now Tuesday night is the ONLY one I CANNOT do.

The plan would be to figure out where painted orcs went, and what they're doing down there. Given that they destroyed a settlement of the Marches with a UD->Surface attack, I think there's very strong IC reasons to scout around down there. However, we'd need a DM in some capacity, even if we end up finding something completely un-orc-related.

Maer has no intention of leading non-sneaky people around in the UD for no good reason. The last time he was down there he had to kill two Mindflayers, so he's wary to return (he usually doesn't do anything to make his presence known, but I literally opened a door onto two of them, and felt like I needed to un-stealth and fight).

Merry is still interested because it is an adventure and she is still upset because of what the orcs did to Settlestone. And she can sneak with the best of them

I think the IC reasons are so simple, that drives me nuts that a group of basically good-aligned adventurers has no reason to venture into the underdark. Why wouldn't they?

Explore and map, find where the Horde may have found passage, if it gets tough, fall back and regroup.

It's really simple.
