RP spells
There are a number of low level standard/Core/SRD spells I'd like to have the option to utilize at some point with permission.
cantrips:
http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/ghostSound.htm
http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/mageHand.htm
http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/message.htm
http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/prestidigitation.htm
(I've previously RPed Aglaril as having some of these cantrips - all standard cantrips are available to lvl 1 wizards without having to learn them from scrolls, etc so they shouldn't cost extra, just require permission to utilize)
Lvl1:
http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/alarm.htm
http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/featherFall.htm
http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/silentImage.htm
(25gp market value for lvl 1 scrolls, typically lvl 1 scrolls cost 22 gp at the College for students iirc. It seems to me that the College is likely to carry all or most of these as they are common, low level spells. I'm willing to have appropriate gold cost deducted from Aglaril for access to copies of scrolls from Latima)
Lvl 3:
http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/tongues.htm
http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/shrinkItem.htm
(Market cost 375 gp, 322gp or so at Scribery for students)

Re: RP spells
With all spells our engine cant replicate, it is up to the DM at the time whether to accept their use, though in my experience ALFA DMs have been very willing to accept their use.
Players are not required to abide by RP spells if used without a DM, especially if they are supposed to reveal something (eg detect magic).

Re: RP spells
Tongues would pretty much have to be scripted (=know all dmfi languages). The trouble is the duration: A short conversation can take hours by IG clock. Assuming no PCs who should not understand are around, the DM, or other players, can allow tongues by just switching everything to common, of course.
Feather Fall is somewhat pointless as a scroll. FF is an immediate action, which is what allows you to cast it mid-fall. Activating a scroll is standard action. Which means you'd be lying on the ground by the time you finish casting from the scroll. Unless you fall from *really* high, or do a prepared leap and cast beforehand (round per level, 1 round at CL1 at quoted price).
Other than that, are we getting "dummy RP spell slots" to the engine? And does that allow for making scrolls of "[Class] RP spell, level N" (which can be re-named with DMFI tool)?

Re: RP spells
Obviously, you buy a scroll of Feather Fall (as well as the other spells) so you can copy it into your spellbook, so you can cast it as an immediate action when you have it memorized. So no, it is far from pointless.t-ice wrote: Feather Fall is somewhat pointless as a scroll.

If some DMs allows free access to RP spells for prep casters without having to pay for them that's great, but in general it makes sense that they'd have to be acquired/added to one's spellbook per usual unless they are one of the two spells acquired on level up.

Re: RP spells
Do note: if you intend to have RP spells available to you in a session, tell your DM first and preferably leave a spell slot empty. If not, tell the DM exactly which memorized spell you have assigned to your RP spells so they can watch that it is used as it should be.
Re: RP spells
In the absence of name(able?) RP spell slots I've just been agreeing with DMs beforehand which spell slot is meant to be something else, i.e., 'Body Of The Sun is actually Tree Shape', then just remove the Body Of The Sun slot via the spellbook when it comes to casting (as cool as it would be for Body Of The Sun to be a side effect of Tree Shape).
EDIT: ^^ What Swifty ninja'd in up there.
How are RP slots likely to be implemented? Will they be named so that Spellcraft checks for observers still happen?

Re: RP spells
RP spells could easily be put IG without a mechanical action just to be able to learn them and to memorize them.
Its work its true, but since it doesn't involve any scripting just a description it shouldn't be that hard I guess.
Can some techy person confirm this is possible?

Re: RP spells
I'll be adding a round of RP spells in my next submission to ALFA tech admin.
Right now I have other building / scripting priorities (like encounters and appraise / knowledge tools).

Re: RP spells
This is something low tech-y enough (at least the descriptions part) that I'd be glad to offer to help, along with submitting correct descriptions for many spells with current descriptions that do not match up with ingame mechanics.

Re: RP spells
If you want these to actually show up in your spellbook, they need to be added to the haks. Once they're in, we can make blueprints to put in stores, etc. I'd prefer this option, frankly, as you would then be able to learn them with your other spells, simplifying the DM load on tracking what spells are available to a given PC at a given point in time.Ithildur wrote:Obviously, you buy a scroll of Feather Fall (as well as the other spells) so you can copy it into your spellbook, so you can cast it as an immediate action when you have it memorized. Re: RP spells
There's a good number of them that are just waiting for debugging, and a handful more that it sounds like Riot was going to take a crack at. It's just another one of those "holdup is available labor, not ruling or possibility" sort of issues.
Re: RP spells
Any objection to use purchasing otherwise-useless scrolls (such as clairovoyance, low-light vision or resist energy) and re-naming them? Specifically, Maer has needed tongues for his spying for some time, and has some plans to put the various illusion spells to some effect.Curmudgeon wrote:If you want these to actually show up in your spellbook, they need to be added to the haks. This way DMs do not have to keep track of prepped spells, since they are cast from scrolls. The name of the spell will be displayed when the scroll is used, e.g. "Maeredhel uses Scroll, Detect Poison".
