Re: nwnx profiler results
Zicada, is the elevated CPU usage while the machine is idle actually causing a problem for you, or was this investigation simply motivated from the context of general server health improvements?
Before we spend further time investigating this, I'd like to understand what we're trying to solve here. This has been a longstanding issue in NWN2 since release as far as I know (not specific to ALFA; I've observed it in modules without any ALFA content), and because processor usage returns to nominal levels once players are present, I'm not terribly worried about this impacting in-game performance too much at this point*.
* There may be other performance issues to worry about, but the "increasing CPU usage while idle" isn't something that I've seen cause degredation when players are about.

Did you consider spending time on this ?Basilica wrote:Zicada, is the elevated CPU usage while the machine is idle actually causing a problem for you, or was this investigation simply motivated from the context of general server health improvements?

Re: nwnx profiler results
Basically we can't do anything about it as it is a problem with nwn2server.exe.
AL's solution (connecting a dummy DM at all times) looks the only one we have short of restarting the server when it is unused.

Re: nwnx profiler results
Yes, but I would need RDP access to the server machine while it is reproing and CPU usage is high (and players would need to stay off of it for a bit while it was being investigated).zicada wrote:Did you consider spending time on this ?

How did you come to the conclusion that it's nwserver ? Not that I doubt you, just interested to know.Hialmar wrote:Basically we can't do anything about it as it is a problem with nwn2server.exe.

Re: nwnx profiler results
AL said it and I believed him
Honestly nwn2server.exe is a piece of crap. I have had a lot of problems with it while debugging xp_vaultster, xp_ruby and now xp_jvm (plugins that are hooked into its code).
From what I did before with nwnserver.exe (NWN1's server) I'd say it was way better even though the hooking part wasn't prepared by Bioware (what Obsidian partly did).
If only Obsidian could open source it, Skywing and others from nwnx2.org could correct a lot more bugs than what they already did.
