The only issue with pausing mid combat is it throws off everyone else; you lose track of movements, timing, everything. Playing a mage I've found you learn to lead and predict, both things that are entirely IC. Sometimes you catch a friend in a spell, but that's part of the world our characters live in.

That said, it feels like survivalism as it relates to mage spells is probably content for another thread.

Finally, at any time, while we are DMing, a PC may call PAUSE on the DM channel. We will try to immediately pause the game and see whats up. You might consider spamming the DM channel with 'Pause' until the game actually pauses. Please only do this if you know a DM that is OK with this is on. Curmudgeon may not care that you want a pause, and he may smite you for spamming him.

My last little jaunt with Paazin and Ksiel had many pauses which while arduous, did allow us to target three life saving heals, and allowed us a little foresight in a more turn based combat that normal speed does not allow.

I did'nt like as a DM (when I dmd events), but honestly I cant count the times that lag wasn't an issue in combat so we all remarked OC to them later, that it really helped us. On the alternate side, it really is annoying to do so in CvC.
