The Argent Legion
Hi TSM crew,
I'm interested in any source material on the Argent Legion, or just maybe some explanation here. I get the general concept, an army of the silver marches made up of various forces/militias. Commanded from Rauvinwatch keep I believe.
I'm interested in some more detailed stuff, rank structure, hierarchy, areas of command that sort of thing.
Is there an officer for each town, or outpost? Who commands small patrols? Are there specilized positions or is the rank structure quite regimented? What is the percentage of forces contributed by the various allied states/cities?
This all may be learned in game I am assuming, I have just had little to no contact with the Argent Legion even though they are kind fo all pervasive around the server, so I'm interested in learning more, especially since my character may be considering joining up down the road some. Anything that may be of interest, big or small would be appreciated.

Re: The Argent Legion
From the Book of Ed
Patrols of the Argent Legion
The Argent Legion, a thinly scattered army of soldiers drawn from each of the member cities of the league of the Silver Marches, makes efforts to extend the region of patrols from the vicinity of the major settlements into the wilds. To the west they go as far as the junction of the Rauvin and the Surbrin rivers. To the south, they watch the Evermoors and the shadows under the High Forest. To the east, the Argent Legion patrols no farther than Moon Pass in the Nether Mountains, but on the other side of the mountains in Old Delzoun they patrol as far as the ruins of Ascore. Finally, to the north, the soldiers patrol up the Surbrin, skirting the verges of the Moonwood and Cold Wood, and into the wild Ice Mountains in the east.
The patrols raid when necessary into the Moonwood, Evermoors, and Far Forest to harry giants, goblinoid tribes, and beasts. They make regular forays into the Silverwood and along the Evermoor Way to make sure its run between the Silverwood and the High Forest remains open and relatively safe. They heavily patrol the Rauvin Vale on both banks, as far north as the Nether foothills and as far south as the verges of the High Forest between Silverymoon and Jalanthar. Standing guards are maintained in the vital Moon Pass and in Silverymoon Pass, and large armed escorts regularly accompany caravans along the Fork Road, Redrun Gallop (between Sundabar and Citadel Felbarr), and along the Adbar Road.
Right now, the Argent Legion tastes battle most often along the Adbar and in the rolling lands of the North Run between Quaervarr and Citadel Felbarr -- and they recommend that travelers not attempt either route without their escort. In practice, this means caravans must arrange to accompany Argent Legion forces and follow the orders of Legion commanders -- it does not mean that any traveler can call for an escort or expect timely aid if they go alone and get into trouble.
Other highly dangerous areas at present include the Evermoors, the Fork Road east of the Adbar road, and Turnstone Pass. It's not recommended that travelers enter these areas, and they can expect no assistance from the soldiers of the Silver Marches if they do.
((it doesn't answer all of your questions obviously))

Re: The Argent Legion
Methrammar Aerasumé is a half-elven martial wizard, son of Silverymoon's High Lady Alustriel Silverhand and an elf, and High Marshal of the Argent Legion, the defense force and standing army of the Silver Marches. In this position he also has the seventh seat on the council of the Silver Marches as a peer. ((this probably close to common knowledge))
P. 90 of Silver Marches: "The current commitments to the Argent Legion include 200 Knights in Silver from Silverymoon, 250 Iron Guard from Citadel Adbar, 200 Shieldsar from Sundabar, 100 archers and cavalrymen from Everlund's Army of the Vale, 50 dwarves from Citadel Felbarr, and 50 from Mithral Hall, for a total strength of 850 troops. [...] For now, the Legion's forces are assigned as follows: 200 in Citadel Felbarr, 200 in Sundabar, 50 in Jalanthar and 400 in Rauvinwatch Keep [...]"
We can safely assume that the full commitment from Sundabar (200 Shieldsar - 54% humans, 33% dwarves, 8% rock gnomes) makes up for the entire Argent Legion company of 200 stationed in Sundabar (See below (under FELBARR) for the composition of the Argent Legion company stationed in Felbarr).
Now, as to what they would look like, Silver Marches says (still on p. 90): "These troops are all included in their home cities' descriptions, since commitments and force dispositions vary from tenday to tenday."

Re: The Argent Legion
All good infor Dergon thanks that helps,
I'm interested also however in the situation as it stands on the server, like I know theres Sgt Baron in rovermoot and a Lt. missing etc.
Is there a formalized rank structure for players who join the legion? that kind of thing

Nope ...DM team has kept it "plot-stimulatingly-vague" as to who is who. Rath has been trying to pin down the exact chain of command for near to 2 years now!

But a gather info (DC hell if I know ...block your own meta

Lt. Flinn Pomador is the one missing. Lt. Pomador was actually a replacement for Battlepriest Aires Morgan of Torm (who fell in the orc horde attack of DR 1376 and whose incomplete statue likeness is on the high plateau above Rivermoot), who himself was a replacement for the disgraced Lt. Derek Silverblade. After Morgan's death, Knightblade Lemuel Ogdenstorm of Helm and Trusty Rathalan Whitsword made an attempt to take control of the village and its defences to prevent the ascendence of the (allegdly

And since you seem interested, here is some info from The house Invincible forum:
Vigilant Master Baerim Coraddor, High Priest of the House Invincible
Aries Morgan, deceased, Tormite Battle Priest, former Commander of Cojoint of Forces of Torm, Helm, and red Knight
Ambrose Pemberk, Watchknight of Helm, Battle Priest of House Invincible, Companion of the One True Vision, Silver Shield of Maztica: Commander of Forces Helm, Western marches ........as of DR 1376 demoted to rank of Trusty - And since then has gone missing, currently believed dead and interred in the Tower of the Star's secret inner chambers. - Pemberk's remains were recovered from the Tower of the Star but his soul remains imprisoned until a way can be found to safely end the curse on the entire contents of the Tower.
Overblade Wikkering: Inquisitor running the trials of the Rivermoot Helmites - Declared a traitor when discovered to have brought about the murder of Shield Knut, as well as slaying a Legionaire guardsman during his escape. Believed dead. - Found evidence in the Tower that he was tortured to death by Bluetusk's forces along with Pemberk.
Lieutenant Derek Silverblade (currently stripped of rank). Rivermoot Leader of the Legion and defence forces during the Blue Tusk horde attack. (( his leadership was judged a failure and he lost his rank)) - Currently wanted for murder by the Legion for assaulting civillian caravans, according to rumour. - Now residing in or near High Hold and reportedly resorted to hiring his services as a sell-sword when not acting in cooperation with Battle Priest Sir Severen of Red Knight. Though he appears to have been declared innocent of wrongdoing regarding the caravans, he remains very bitter over his circumstances, but is not necessarily a lost cause. He began initial advanced weapons training for Knightblade Ogdenstorm before other duties, presumably a mission for Battle Priest Severen, interfered to the extent that Lemuel was done with the training by the time he returned.
Sergeant of the Argent Legion Praetor Baron: Liason between Marshall Kadalaion, the Argent Legion and the Militia. Suspected of being corrupted, either by personal preference, or influenced by Bazim-Gorag, the Lich Lord imprisoned in the Tower of the Star. Better you simply ignore him and deal with Lt. Flinn Pomodor when given the opportunity.
update 8/10/09: Rathalan's Inquiry into the death of Asharen of Helm has found fault with Baron's manner of assigning patrol. Sending to few and too inexperienced patrols into the field without veterans or command was found as a significant contributing factor to the needless death.
Lt. Flinn Pomador: Argent Legion officer currently in charge of the Rivermoot defences. Well thought of, believed to be honest and dutifull. As far as is known, at this time, he is an ally of the House Invincible, and all members of the Rivermoot garrison of the Helmite Forces are encouraged to cooperate as fully as possible, within the strictures of our own chain of command. Not a man to piss off, so do try to keep Rugo in line around the man. He knows Rugo seems to have taken a shine to us, so let's see if we can't be a good influence on the little git, and improve our own standing in the Lt.'s eyes.
Battlepriest Hyalen Severen: Priest of Red Knight at High Hold. Ally. Acted secretly as intermediary when Derek Silverblade was in hiding.
Dean Vihuel (?sp?) of the Lady's college: He and Rathalan seem to have a decent rapport. Rathalan was named attache to the Lady's College in working with the arcanists in the undead contagion troubles.
Marshall Aeresume: High commander of Argent Legion forces. Was convinced by Corrador to allow HouseInvincible forces to act as the primary forward force in the toppling of the Star Tower. Has respect for HI, but made it clear during from various rulings that HI forces were not to have command authority over any Legion troops. This lack of defined chain of command has led to occasional conflicts between Helmite forces and the Legion when differences of opinon as to tactical approches arise, particulary in the remote areas (like Rivermoot) where small garrisons of each force are stationed. See also Sgt. Praetor Baron regarding said conflicts

Re: The Argent Legion
There are a few old fliers plastered in various towns through the marches signed Marcus Wands, Secretary to the Lieutenant Pomodor.
Re: The Argent Legion
I knew we kept Dergon around for something. He documents my plots and makes them sound half-reasonable.
Enjoy the game
Re: The Argent Legion
Ranks is a hard one to define in most fantasy based militias. Waterdeep had Armars and Civilars, roughly sergeants and officers.
Basically, in the militias here, you get the American based rank system, simply because everyone knows it. So, officers are captains and lieutenants, enlisted are sergeants and privates (or troopers, patrolmen, etc). Captain and sergeant (servant) were real medieval ranks. Corporal was an Italian addition for a leader of 10, or so. Lieutenant was French (in lieu of the captain).
With Knights in Silver, you have to substitute the officers for Knights. Bachelor (landless) knights are like Lieutenants and Banner Knights are captains. There are also Knight Sergeants, who are the 'enlisted' based on the real medieval equivalent of poor less noble or non-noble knights, sometimes referred to as Knight - Servants.
Romans, of course, used Centurions, a sort of sergeant in charge of 50 (earlier it was 100). Tribunes and Prelates were the officers in the Legions, with a Tribune in charge of a cohort (or subsection of a Legion) and the Prelate as the commander of the Legion.
When I first started making the uniforms and rank structures for the Argent Legion, I used Lieutenant, Captain, and Sergeant, and tried to have a post in each village with a few militia members and an officer.
Cheers

Re: The Argent Legion
The Argent Legion is a bit like the Dallas Cowboys.
They are always careful to look good, talk a good game and have a really nice building in which to play, but at the end of the day, they are going to let you down.
Oh, and at any given time a handful or more of them are up to no good.

Re: The Argent Legion
Also from the Silver Marches book:
There's also some very good information about rangers and scouts working for the Marches. Send me a PM if you want to know more. The army of the Silver Marches league is known as the Argent Legion. It is composed of units drawn from the armies of each of the signatory cities. The Legion is headquartered in Rauvinwatch Keep, under the command of High Marshal Methrammar Areasume. Most of the Argent Legion's forces are dispersed in garrisons and patrols throughout the territory of the Silver Marches, providing for the first time a measure of security to settlers and homesteaders who live far from city walls.
(...) Some cities are in the habit of sending green troops who aren't considered too valuable to waste on League business, but under Methrammar, the Argent Legion's vigorous patrols and skirmishing are making veterans of even the most woeful troops in his command
