Now taking suggestions for next campaign
If you have a type of campaign you'd like to see next from me, post here. I'll be doing this campaign PST evenings still, but if you have ideas, post away. No guarantee I'll use any of these ideas necessarily, but it's something to help me get the creative juices flowing.

Team Auril really could use some DM love.

A. Team Auril specific +1 - these guys have been pretty patient, and could use some attention.
B. Nature Oriented - Haven't had much in the way of druid/ranger specific action...definately could do something centered around the aftermath of the quakes near RM.
C. Auvandell - has been on lock down due to a plague since TSM opened, about time something helpful was done to re-open it, campaign for healers and possible nature friends.
D. CIty based Campaign - Most of the action I've been involve with happens near Rivermoot...would be a nice change of scenery to have a campaign focused on the city, or Quarvarr or some such.

Agreed. I didnt copy point B, but it was nature... we do that too. I can safely speak for all of us (six) that we would love this. Our leader is in NY till like the 18th thou.
Im in the middle of rebuilding Auvendell and the pass. sorry no plauge, but a quaint lil mountain town with slight swiss alpine flavoring on the way.danielmn wrote:C. The Aurilites definately need a little DM heat
A low level campaign NOT centered around RM. Some NooBs need some love too.

Re: Now taking suggestions for next campaign
Got to agree with the Aurlite thing, of course, and I know you like campaigns, but do campaigns have to be limited to a few selected PC's? If it would be possible to pursue a campaign that could develop without nessecarily having to exclude PC's it would be good for the server, I think.
I think we all understand that it's no fun pausing to "bring a newb up to speed" and lag issues, but perhaps through the use of keystone PC's that could gather their own mini-parties and scatter the field a bit on sub-quests more PC's of various classes and alignments could be involved working on a spoke system around a central hub.
I know it has to be fun for the DM as well, so if it seems like too much work please disregard, but with NWN (as opposed to PnP) one can take advantage of the ability to just drop a few items and monsters in a location, and send out a party with instructions to bring something back and let the game engine handle the rest. Large parties can be made halved, quartered, etc. and scattered as need be.
We've got a plethora of exceptional players many of which would be all too happy to assist with management/leadership needs in a scattered campaign.
But then again...I've no personal experience DMing in NWN, so I'm just throwing some stuff out there to see if any of it sticks, heh

Re: Now taking suggestions for next campaign
I hear what you're saying johnlewism... but as I understand it there's a reason why these are called campaigns, as opposed to ad hoc or wide open DMing which is more common in online PWs. One of Alfa's trademarks in the past has been excellent campaign DMing focused on a dedicated core group of characters, along with more wide open type of stuff. These type of sessions can be deeply satisfying for the involved players and DM if done well, on a lvl that surpasses wide open/drop by stuff. The downside, yes, is that those who aren't involved or fit in can feel very left out of the action. That's why it's good to have an active and well stocked staff of dm's rather than just one or two, so if your character isn't in on one plot/campaign it has a chance to be in another.
Sometimes it just isn't feasable to have a dm that wants to run a campaign focusing on roguish/underworld type characters also make room for a paladin, etc. (unless it's an adversarial role). Similarly a DM that's running something urban/city/sewer focused might not be able to fit a druid in, and a player who wants his rogue to work towards becoming king of the underworld might not work out so well in a treehugging plot, etc.
You can of course have campaigns that can involve nearly everyone; some memorable epic campaigns have been of that nature in the past - but imo you really can't pull off something of that nature every campaign and have it be convincing. The servers that try to pull off epic campaigns involving everyone every other week are seldom successful.
just my 2 cents
edit: having said that, it is wonderfully compelling and dynamic (and yes, take a lot of planning and work and patience which is the catch, both from dm's and players) if servers have staff coordinating various plots, subplots, campaigns and mini campaigns that are part of an overarching 'meta (or mega?) campaign' that is being unfolded slowly piece by piece, like chapters in a long novel, and take a long time to eventually become connected and move towards a climactic point that may be big enough to change the face of the entire region etc. I know this has been done in the past in alfa with great success and would love to get to be a part of such... who knows, maybe something like this is already in progress.

Re: Now taking suggestions for next campaign
It can be hard enough maintaining one group, doing multiple groups is beyond me. I like to know my characters so I can try to personalize it somewhat. Now, anyone is welcome to join these groups, as were they with Exalted. My issue during Exalted was that new players would often show up on the night of the campaign, without ever sending me a bio and just wish to be included and brought up to speed. You want to be included? Make friends with the pcs another time, get them convinced to invite you along. And also, if you want an evil pc to be able to campaign with a bunch of good pcs, then you better start making that evil pc change really quickly or be a good enough liar that they'll trust you.I know it has to be fun for the DM as well, so if it seems like too much work please disregard, but with NWN (as opposed to PnP) one can take advantage of the ability to just drop a few items and monsters in a location, and send out a party with instructions to bring something back and let the game engine handle the rest. Thanks for the suggestions, keep them coming.

Re: Now taking suggestions for next campaign
Sorry..lost track of this thread for a bit.
K...understood, Vendrin. If it's too much work, then it wouldn't be fun for you. And it's got to be fun.
I wasn't thinking about my little train wreck of a PC when I posted though (he would have been a distraction for everyone, most likely
), I was thinking more about the many new players we've had come and go over the last couple months. I'm definitely NOT trying to assign responsibility for player retention to you or any other DM, however. Some come and learn to love RP for RP's sake, some don't. And it's only one day out of the week that a group of PC's is taken out of interaction with the rest. Not a big deal in the larger scheme of things.
You're an excellent DM and whatever suits your game style best is wonderful by me.
