New character vault testing (increased lag)

Post by AcadiusLost »

We're currently running a test of a networked shared vault in advance of our second NWN2 server, Baldur's Gate, going Live. What this means for players on TSM currently, is that you may need to wait a bit for your PC to show up after connecting to the server, and you may see lag-spikes larger than normal as others log onto or off of the server.

What you can do to help: Try to avoid logging back in straight after logging out, as this doubles the lag for other players. Also, if you can avoid logging in at the same time as lots of other players (say, right after the server comes back up from a reset or crash), that's helpful as well.

Please post feedback here. The current setup (Webdav mounted netdrive) is not necessarily what we'll stick with longterm, but seems to be the best option available for the moment.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we prepare for the transition to a multiserver Persistent World on the NWN2 platform.

Occasionally the server neglects to set the proper password after booting. Or someone did some maintenance and forgot to put the correct password in place. In such cases, IRC's your friend.

Thats just AL setting a random one until the server is completely loaded and stable, to force people to wait a bit.

The "Ban" it puts on repeated failed logins happens when the gamespy connection interface goes buggy and loops on "Login Incorrect" every now and then, it's happened to me before. I don't believe that sort of a ban persists beyond a mod reset, though. TSM was last reset 13 hours ago, will have several more resets today most likely (some new content going in soon). If it's still locking you out, please let me know via IRC, and I'll look into it.
