The defences of Rivermoot
(thought i'd create a topic where people can post anything they might be doing or plan on doing in the future in order to help improve the defenses of Rivermoot)
Fudwick has been seen covering the bridge into Rivermoot with dirt. The dirt is about 1/2 a centimeter thick and is evenly spread across the whole thing. He has spoken to the marshal and told him his plan along with talking to Lemuel of House Invincible.
What Fudwick now plans to do is to speak with the druids at the Great Oak and see if they will help him in turning the bridge (and possibly other wooded defensive structures) from normal wood into Ironwood so that it'll be fire resistant and mush harder than normal.

Garlus has agreed to approach those at Felbarr about a possible contingent of dwarves coming to Rivermoot to do necessary repairs on various projects outlined to him by Lem, among which are repairing walls, a possible stone bridge slated for build at a later date, and new stone walls where the palisade around the town itself now exsists.

Thats more of a discussion, this is supposed to be more of a thing so you can say what your character has done.Mulu wrote:Maybe build onto the prior attempt?

True --- long term goals would include a complete engineering project to divert water round the island, wideneing and deeping the moat, and massing up earth and stone to raise the elveation of the island at least a few more feet above sea level.Vendrin wrote:The reason as far as I know that Rivermoot has never had extensive defenses built is because the little island is routinely flooded.
I currently envision rivermoot looking something like this:

Over time perhaps something like this (after I get that Alustriel Grant of 100,000 gp

Rivermoot Helmite forces work details have cleared away all the empty packing crates scattered around the town courtyard and from underneath the archer's platform, as well as going a long way toward filling the gap in the stone wall between the Legion tower and the gate with a double-thickness of sandbags. So far, the breach has been filled in to about chest height, and work continues with preparation of more sail-cloth sacks to be filled with dirt and sand.
Watchblade Ogdenstorm has been heard to be "discussing" the preparation of large quantities of iron spikes and caltrops using the weaponsmith's workroom. The conversation could be heard nearly as far as the dogled dell, if the wind was in the right quarter, but threats of censure for not cooperating with the express wishes of Battle Priest Ambrose Pemberk, Watchknight of Helm of House Invincible finally cut through the resistance and work has begun on the defence project, in addition to her regular smithing duties.

***As a gentle reminder, Garlus has delivered missives and approached those at Felbarr about sending an essayer and a team of builders to Rivermoot for repairs that are both necessary and needed as soon as possible. I'll leave the rest in the DM's hands***

To diversify, since the forges of Rivermoot are a bit slow in the opinion of the Helmites, Garlus has taken an order for forty iron rungs to be used as footholds for the Legion Tower to Ironsheild in the city in hopes that this will lighten the burden of the Rivermoot Forge.

*In a spate of labour lasting several days, Watchblade Ogdenstorm and a few of his fellow Helmites got together and completed a series of 10' deep pits, on the landward side of the riverbank around the western perimeter from the legion post tower as far around as a man (or orc) can reach on foot, and between each boulder or tree. The inner walls shored up for support with dismantled packing crate slats and covered with old sail cloth.*
((I've got screenies of the placements of each pit, as marked out by crossbow bolts laid out at the corners, if anyone on the team needs the visual aid.))

The Orcs attacked again, this time with a little more stealth. The attempted to get a rope across the river and use it so their undead minions could get across the water. At the same time a second force attacked the oppisite shore, the series of trenches dug by the helmite forces served to slow the orcs enough so that they were met by the militia and a small group of heroes. Blue rocks were left scattered aroud the battlefield.

*Watchblade Ogdenstorm makes an inspection tour of the line of pits on the western shore of Rivermoot, getting work details together to repair any damage done to them in the recent incursion, before returning to the smithy to cajole Yinvray into completing her backorder of spikes for the pits. Afterward, he can be heard to seek out anyone capable of supplying enough extruded wire to be strung from one anchor point to another along the entire western shoreline, offering double the regular price if it can be obtained and delivered in less than a tenday.*

I've got most of these changes done..
I am having difficulty with the pits though. They would have taken many many hours and would have taken a heap of shoring up since they would keep filling with river water..
They will need constant maintenance to avoid just being muddy divets I'd say..

Ryu will be available for digging and shoring detail, sand bagging and any other menial defence tasks that are required. As he spends most of his time in Rivermoot (when not delivering messages for the Trusty) he can be doing this daily.
