Is this being used in TSM? Does it have any effect whatsoever?

It's used in the NWN2 engine, so yes, it's used in TSM.
People talk of bestial cruelty, but that's a great injustice and insult to the beasts; a beast can never be so cruel as man, so artistically cruel.

Whether or not an appraise check is rolled, and how far it modifies prices, are defined by the scripts which open the particular store and merchant. To my knowledge, this is not currently standardized in the TSM module. At least some of the merchants bypass appraise checks. Others may use them.

The majority of the merchants I've personally fixed use one central script to open their stores for PCs, so it would be fairly trivial to add an appraise check to that, though I'd have to see what range is recommended and test to make sure it works properly.

I'll see what the DM team thinks, and then implement accordingly.

So we're saying that putting points in appraise is a waste of time?

Speaking only from what I experienced in NWN.. mechanics wise.. yes.. the benefit you get from decent apprase ranks are minimal. It's mostly a matter of concepts and flavour I suppose, much like perform for non bards (unless trying for SD). Now nothing stops a DM from making the points you spent on appraise count for something.

As per AL's point, I woudl like to see merchants making use of of this script so we can expect to see it being phased in at some point, hopefully soon.

That would be sweet, as it would come in very handy to characters who buy many items.

The only skills that matter are Lore and Discipline. Screw you for thinking otherwise.
