Canon FR Herbs

Hello canon gurus,

A few of us are currently looking at the list of alfa herbs for the NWN2 servers. With the hopes of standardizing the herbs across servers along with specific plant planceables for each herb.

I cant find a definitive CANON FR HERB list.

_____________________________________________________________

Cipher posted this list in 2006:

http://www.alandfaraway.org/phpbbforum/ ... hp?t=27394

but I don't see the source listed also it is missing several herbs that we know and love in alfa1 servers - for example bilberry and witchwood aren't in the list.

____________________________________________________________

A net search produced some great lists by Shaun Hately but they are for RPG in general and even include Tolkien herbs.

You can find them here:
http://www.adnddownloads.com/poisons.php

"The Great Net Herb Pamphlet" is what Cipher listed in the post above
"Guide to Herbs" is a very complete Shaun Hately guide (which includes the herbs created by Druann Pagliasotti)

____________________________________________________________

So having exhausted my leads I turn to the canon team for help...

1) Is there a canon FR herb list?
2) Is there an AD&D canon herb list?
3) Are the herbs we used in NWN1 canon?

If the answers to the above questions are all NO - then we will have to compile our own ALFA list of herbs and get it approved by the NWN2 standards folk before proceeding.

I'm at work atm so I can't check but I think one the Elminster's Ecologies books has a list of plants and trees.

One FR official source I've got for these is the Lords of Darkness book, which has a small section near the end (p182-185) on Drugs in Faerun- most of these are narcotic herbs. There is also a brief treatment of addiction effects, with some game mechanics to go with them.

The drugs listed:

Haunspeir (tobaccolike, processed paste or pill, boosts INT)

Jhiuld (herbs/grapes/fruit, processed, STR boost, WIS decrease)

Kammarth (magical, made with underdark fungus, exp. retreat, +dex)

Katakuda (magical, Kara-Tur tree bark paste, +nat armor)

Mordayn Vapor / Dreammist (rare ground herb from "southern forests"- deadly poison- hallucinogenic, CON and WIS damage)

Oruighen / Phantomdust (processed rare Cacti from Lake of Salt, temp blindness & attack penalty)

Panaeolo (magical, netherese/thayan herb, boosts arcane spell DCs)

Redflower Leaves (processed bog flowers native to Cormyr, Sembia, and Dragon Coast, bonus to attack)

Rhul / Battlewine (unspecified spicy red fluid, +STR, +CON, -AC)

Sakrash / Twilight Mind (magical, wines+ rare tree sap + herbs, only made in Thay and Mulhorand- blocks mindreading)

Sezarad Root (carrotlike root with vivid flowers- temporay +HP)

Tekkil (processed red succulent swamp plant leaves- analgesic, gives DR vs subdual only)

Ziran / Bloodfast (refined underdark fungus- also cultivated by some surface alchemists- +DEX, long duration)

Awesome Darren! Thanks - Im at work too so Ill check that when I get home.

I did some searching on Candlekeep and found someone mentioning an herb list in the Arms and Equipment Guide. (Not Faerun canon but certainly a good D&D source).

We classified the material from Lords of Darkness as drugs (should we reclassify them?):

I can't recall the source of the herbs list though. I think it was just the most comprehensive list we (Blackwill?) found on the web.

The Complete Druid Handbook from 2e lists several canon herbs (Herbal Magic) and points to the 2e PHB as another resource.

Thanks AL and Twiggy- I 'll check out those books too.

Cipher I think I should go ahead and compile anything canon we can find - herbs, mushrooms, poisons, plants of any kind used as drugs. I'll get it together (including the sources) and present it to the standards team.

Anyone else out there know of sources? Heegz, Spider?

((Just out of curiousity - are there any oldtimers who remember how the original herbs were chosen for the NWN1 servers? Who was in charge and how they became implemented. I keep remembering the IG glimpses Marianne showed Kip of "Arien's tome of herblore". I imagine that volume is as complete as you can get for a NWN1 list of active herbs.))

By all means Aelred, please do. We can revise the list with a more accurate one, if such a thing exists.

There is also this thread in the wiki:

That's a nice list, but unfortunately, it only provides a description. At a minimum, we would need cost (if sold in stores), effect, and duration defined for each herb.

Try Aurora's Whole Realms Catalogue then. Pricing for different herbs scattered throughout.
