Is it alfa canon that monks come from founded orders?

Or can a player use the monk class for a pc that is single mindedly dedicated to whatever it is that player so chooses?

reason being I'm thinking of a using the monk class as my starting point for a swordsmen type of pc aiming at WM, he isn't dedicated to a god or even philosophy I guess but then one might consider the martial philosophy such.

Just wondered how this would fly

Pages 32 & 33 in the APM cover the guidelines for monks in ALFA. I don't recall there being a rule that a monk PC must be from an order, at least I've not seen one. Someone else should be able to give you a definitive answer on that. However I think that in order to multi-class you'd have to do so under one of the canon orders, as well as have a DM involved (token, etc).

You can make a monk without being in an order (though it'd be unusual), but if you do so you cannot multiclass freely. Same goes for paladins. You can multiclass outside of an order or outside of your order's allowed multiclasses, but then you can never level in monk/paladin again.
