Silvy Spawn Observations

This is to document what's been happening on Silvy while spawning 100 NPCs in the north, and 50 in the south.

It's actually working surprisingly well.

The 100 are broken down as follows:

- 50 Commoners (Immobile Social Animations only)
- 30 Walkers (Walk Wayponts only)
- 10 Dock Workers (Immobile Single Animation eg. Shoveling)
- 10 Guards (Immobile, no animation)

The 50 commoners are set to only spawn between 6am and 8pm. All other spawns are 24 hours.

When entering the area the first time, only 30-40 commoners were spawned. I waited till dark, past their despawn time, and they did not despawn. So I transitioned out of the area, then back in. On doing so, the commoners despawned (as I entered the area, for they were still present in the Chooser), and 20 of my 30 walkers, the guards and dock workers spawned.

I left and returned to the area, and the remaining walkers who had not spawned spawned. I left and returned after 6am and half the commoners spawned while everyone else stayed in place. I now had 70-80 NPCs spawned. I left and returned, and sure enough, the remaining commoners spawned, and I finally had 100 NPCs in the area.

I left and returned after 8pm. On doing so, everyone initially stayed in the area, but a few seconds later, all the commoners who were meant to despawn at 8pm despawned.

Load times, with the exception of the first entry to the area, were practically identical, although the fewer spawned needing to be created resulted in faster load times.

Performance on the server, whether it was 30 NPCs or 100, was consistently 1-3%.

So, the Decay setting was not ticked on my walkers or dock workers, but they never duplicated themselves, nor did they despawn. I transitioned about 10 times between the 2 areas.

The default despawn is about 5 minutes? Sometimes this takes longer, and sometimes is doesn't happen at all...10 minutes later, even Decay-ticked NPCs remain.

I've got an appointment I've got to keep, but I'll be back later to draw some conclusions after some more tests. I'd say we were looking really good, at this point.
