ALFA Builders Reference plugin

Post by Bool »

To help and assist ALFA NWN2 builders, I made this small Plugin, which can act like Reference cards when you are in the Toolset.

The idea being you can refer to it quickly from within the Toolset, for all the details in ALFA specific building directions. It will probably just carry the contents of the NWN2 Wiki posts, so may not save a lot of time if you already work with those open in the background - but it is always handy to have the info in one place (and offline).

So far I have only copied in the contents of Doors - just for a proof of concept. Hopefully the Basemod team can specify exactly what they want listed out in each Tab, and we can get an (ongoing) final release out.

That's awesome Bool. :)

Quick question: Is this actually pulling up the information dynamically or is it just a static copy of the wiki in NWN?

It's a static copy.

The reasons being:

a) The Wiki versions currently often sound like someone talking, as opposed to being pure reference;

b) Static means you don't have to be online (ie. working in the Toolset on your laptop somewhere etc). If you were online, it is almost just as easy to have the Wiki open in the next window.

However, one thought is - having some kind of "Check for Updates", which downloads all the latest info straight from the Wiki and caches it for you.

Also, didnt mention earlier - but if anyone has any further ideas, please say so. eg. Things like having buttons which actually copy across Script names/lists to objects, or buttons which set and copy across the ALFA local variables to the actual objects, etc

"Check for Updates" would be dandy. :)

A button to "Update Local Variables" on global blueprints would also be nice (eg: a selected instance, all the instances in game, a blueprint, an entire palette). Keeping the variable list up to date would of course be important just like with the instructions being pulled from the wiki.

I haven't really considered what uses plugins could be put to aside from synching the toolset with the repository. But I like your ideas. :D
