Last server I played on we set up polls for everything. Someone had an idea they wanted to see developed, an issue that needed addressing, or a change they wanted to see made, and a topic was posted in a "Suggestion Box" thread, usually with a poll attached to it. The polling results were used by Admin to guage community support for or against certain initiatives/issues/changes, and efforts were made to adapt the server to reflect the likes/dislikes of the community. Action was never "required" on an issue that had wide community support, but it usually worked out that some action would be taken only because through the polling and discussion we realized that most of us in the community wanted the action so it made sense. Admin also made efforts to voice "official" comment on suggestions, simply stating whether or not action would be taken on a given topic and why or why not.
It resulted in a very active membership and one that felt involved in shaping the PW even if they were not part of the Admin team. As I recall, members whose ideas were actually implemented often became contributers to help see their ideas come to fruition. Any interest in something like this?

Re: Polling
I like the idea in it's core, though i suspect it would not pass reality test
.
We'll end up with too many people pulling to many directions, then argue what should be done before what.
I remember that shortly after i joined ALFA , there was an idea to move from 7 mins time intervals to 14 mins.
There was a debate and discussion, then a poll...
Poll results were that we should move to 14 mins interval....then people started to argue how the votes should be counted...in reality nothing happened.
That was just one idea.

Re: Polling
Errr.. no. A poll was held to gauge interest. The time change was trailed. Another poll was held to keep it at the changed time. The Admin decided the poll result was too close to make such a big change. Admin, as OGR stated, let people know that the time change would not be made. So in the end, this was pretty much the process that OGR described, just with the discussion and trail elements added in.rorax wrote:I remember that shortly after i joined ALFA , there was an idea to move from 7 mins time intervals to 14 mins.

I think it's a great idea, OGR. Would be happy to see a system like that set up.
